Ranger Mods

After a heap of umming and ahhring, or more like a heap of reading on members posts on the Ngauge on fb, I obviously decided to get it. I first did the trans tune and damn it really smoothed out the gear shifts, so thats a big tick (main reason why i got the Nguage) this is all connected to the obd
I then loaded up the mild tune, and bloody hell the response from planting it down was nothing short of impressive.
So up next is the max tune, and ofcourse it was even more hectic. (Had to dial down the idrive lol)
So tbh if you're looking into getting a tune done that you can also untune, and also have the leisure of tracking your temps, the Nguage is definitely worth looking at.

Providing it can be returned to default because it could void your warranty, Ford hate people playing with the ECU.

I already track temps etc, and it was a lot less than $645.

Probably a good thing for a performance car, but a 4wd, not sure.

Yeah i mainly got it for the transmission tune, it doesnt hold the revs high like it used to and changes very smoothly now. I found it a bit jerky and delayed at times, asked Ford about it and all they said thats the way they are.
The tune itself was a bonus, the price difference wasnt much so i went for it. Couldnt be happier

My trans changes smoothly.

It must be your trans, don't always believe what Ford tell you.

Holding revs high is dependant on your throttle pressure or sports mode.

Try a lighter right foot.

The trans tune is quiet could although it is a pain that 3rd gear is so high.

PCM and TCM combined make for a very capable vehicle with some better fuel economy if you do not use all of it.

Could you post a pic of the mounted gauge? It's a bit bigger than 52 mm, so just wondering where it sits.

Have you used it off-road at all, or only on-road?

Personally I feel the Ultragauge is a better tool for monitoring Richard. Custom PIDs and more gauges per screen with auto paging means I still have the UG installed.

You cannot add your own PIDs to it and it has to be done with firmware updates. Overall the gauge is good for adding or removing tunes including back to stock but otherwise lives in the bottom draw. It does not need to be plugged in for the tune to be in effect.

The nguage was designed to fit in the Mustang centre vent hole, hence its size.

Thanks Stewart. Good point about the monitoring capability, best to consider it a tuner. Still looks like good value for what it does.

I've heard from a reliable source that Ford can assume tune files changed (thus void engine and maybe drivetrain warranty) due to the ecu recording the number of flash/ecu writes. Use this information anyway u want, just giving people a heads up. Personally I will be custom Dyno tuning my Ranger using nguage later on.

Assume being the word of choice. Being the way it is possibly recorded means Ford could not prove a definite yes or no. I know mine has been flashed 10 to 20 times by Ford, online and offline depending on what the dealer and I were trying to resolve or update at the time.

At the end of the day people want a tune or not. I say do it in the warranty period, what is the point of doing it out of the warranty period. If it is going to break it's going to break now or later but you at least have a chance of repair if it still does have current warranty.

Yeah that's true Stu, u play u pay. Coming from having a fairly modified FPV FG F6 I know the costs/risks of aftermarket tunes, but I just wanted to share this information with the people that might not be fully briefed on what information Ford can access to hold/deny a warranty claim.

Any updates on the Ngauge. Im thinking seriously about getting one. Apart from the performance gains and the transmission improvments are there any changes in fuel consumption. Are the fuel consumtion figures on the trip metre still as accurate or thrown out of whack by the tune. Hard to find any honest reviews on this product yet.

Also interested if any noticible improvement in fuel economy, especially towing 2.4t caravan

2018 UA Everest Titanium, Shadow Black

I have the bundle and tune from BPT Motorsport and am very pleased with the results. I only installed the mild engine tune. When towing the 21 foot van fully laden including spare water and fuel in the Ranger, the all up weight would be close to the GCM of 6,000kg. My prime interest was to be able to better sustain 6th gear (auto box) at my preferred towing speed of 90-95. I tow in Sport mode, selecting gears manually.

Before the remap, it would struggle at the slightest hill because the revs were too low for much torque. Now it's a breeze, and it will happily hold 6th for a lot longer. When power is needed for steeper hills or overtakes, dropping back to 4th feels a lot better than before and gives noticeable acceleration.

Just this week we travelled up and down the Palmerston Highway near Innisfail with sections marked as 8 and 10 degree grades. It did most of it in 3rd gear just needing to briefly drop back to second a couple of times.

As for fuel consumption, I am not noticing any difference. With easy highway towing I consistently get low 15s. I expect if you worked it harder it would use more fuel than before. I have not done much highway travel without towing, so can't give realistic figures there, but the instant readings suggest it may have improved a little.

Yep. I got mine about 6 months ago. It works a treat and I'm more than happy with the performance .

Just got my nGauge last week. So far it’s been great on and off-road. I’m still working out some kinds with Barry (apparently our 3.2 and 6Auto here has a different tune that he has not seen before).

I did notice 3rd gear is a bit long, which makes it more different for hill climbs in some cases, but it’s really a small thing, give that it’s fixed my speedo, odometer and that it’s given me power back I lost when going to larger Tyres.

I’d like to add custom PIDs, but TBH, I’m happy with the current setup I have.

Just some feedback after 20 thousand ks, couldn't be happier with the ngauge. I'm getting atleast 1L/100ks better fuel economy since installing it.

Mine arrived today and will be fitting it tomorrow. Will let you all know how it goes

Loaded mild tune engine and transmission and very happpy with the resuld. Lots more torque, better throttle response and crisp smooth and faster gear changes. only a short test drive but will give another uppdate after I have driven it a bit more. Highly recommended

I have just stumbled across the NGauge elsewhere & have been reading the above comments.
This sounds like a good option but the gauge is butt ugly & doesn't suit the Ranger at all.
The addition of the tune is good & probably good value.

I currently have Torque Pro & find it crap but this is probably driver error.
The reason I liked Torque Pro was the option to use a small 4" phone which fits nicely above the steering column with good clear gauges.
The other problem is I believe the Torque Pro is upsetting my cruise control, continually switching it off every 20-30 seconds.

If only this info could be sent to the screen where the radio & phone is, surely this would be somehow possible.
I reckon that would be very popular as opposed to the NGauge, Scangauge or Ultragauge.

BPT now has a new system, they no longer use the nGauge. It looks like a small tablet.

Also, you can program the new tunes and then remove the nGauge, it doesn’t have to be there all the time.
