Hi, joining from New Zealand. Have been recommended this forum as I have a pesky very rare and intermittent fault with a 2013 Ranger XLT that is putting it into limp mode and only giving a generic P0089 code. It normally does this with a fully loaded truck+trailer trying to run up the hill behind you which gets interesting when you suddenly can't accelerate...

I have an OBDLink MX+ dongle that I'm hoping to be able to set up to datalog the fuel system - which means finding the PID codes and working out how to correct the data values...

The data I'm hoping to be able to collect is the fuel rail actual pressure, fuel rail commanded pressure, rpm, fuel temperature, SCVduty%, and probably injector duty %... Hopefully with that data, we can work out exactly what is causing it to trip into limp mode - all going well.

Cheers

Have you checked the cold side intercooler hose for splits and/or leaks? Under full boost it may be leaking and causing this problem. It's fairly common, but might be hard to find or feel. Check for any signs of oil on the hose as that may give you a clue if there's a leak.

The other common problem in earlier Rangers is the wiring loom chaffing through, right at the front of the motor, just where the main loom goes under the plastic engine cover. When this happens it will cause intermittent engine light issues. This problem is often worse under full load as the motor moves on the mounts.

Apart from that, good luck with your investigations and please keep us posted.
