I use a tablet because I find the smaller gauges harder to see.
Mine is not in the way, easy to see and I can control the screen brightness.
The amount of available info/gauges.
I had 7 panels of info at one stage, 84 gauges

Hey RP
Thanks for posting this. Is that an ipad or pc? (so dongle wifi or bluetooth?) Software displaying the gauges?
I'm trying to figure out if I want an ultragauge, scangauge or use my phone or ipad. Ipad is good for navigating, as well.
Pardon my ignorance but I learn!

That is a Samsung 8inch tablet, Android.
I am not too sure if iPad & ios works.
The dongle is an OBDLink MX Black Bluetooth.
I have changed the layout a little, got the main info on one page.

OBDlink app is IOS or Android, Red or Black OBDlink MX
*Note if using IOS you will require the RED Wifi version, Android can use either Red Wifi or black Bluetooth.
If you want instant on and not be worrying about tablets, phones, batteries etc. then UltraGuage is the better option.

I would prefer an Ultraguage, too small to read quickly for me unfortunately.

Thanks guys. About to launch into the unknown! Got one dongle. First up I want the outside temp on my XLS. Just bugs me it comes switched off. Reading up on the tyres size, as well and don't get me started on those stupid lights coming on everytime I open a door at a campsite!!
Quite a shift, I used to think I was flash because my old cruiser had a delco dizzy and I could set the points with an allen key! Pretty interesting stuff, though.
Cheers

Hey RossPat, just wondering with your OBDLink tablet...
1. Do you leave the MX dongle plugged in permanently (just curious about parasitic draw while the car is off)?
2. Have you managed somehow to have everything automatically fire up... tablet, software etc. whenever you start the car, or do you have to turn on and load software manually?
Looking to do similar with an old android smart phone.
Cheers

Hi Gerry, dongle is left in, no worries.
I press the OBDLink app and that's it.
There is a setting in Communications to auto connect.
In General settings select Start on Dashboard page.

Be aware the connection to the red OBDLink is notoriously unstable, at least with iOS. I have it but ended up installing an Ultragauge which is worry-free. I use the OBDLink only to communicate with Forscan in case there are trouble codes that the UG cannot detect.

Even stays connected outside the shed.
It has been mentioned on here that IOS is not the best for this situation.

Wow RP, that's cool AF! Was thinking about adapting BF XR dashboard gauge pods to fit that oddments tray ontop of my PX2 dash but now I think I wanna make a shell to house say a Galaxy Note-size device! All hindered by a lack of time and money tho haha!
