SSM 47087 - Ranger and Everest/Endeavour Vehicles Equipped With A Diesel Engine - DTC P0546, P2033, P242D or P040D - EGT Sensor and EGRT Sensor Location Clarification
Dealers are advised that there is a slight discrepancy within the Ranger and Everest/Endeavour Workshop Manual (WSM) in relation to correct wording and locations of the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) bank 1 sensors 1,2 and 3 (EGT11/12/13) and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature (EGRT) sensor. This is currently inthe process of being updated. In the interim period, should a vehicle present with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0546, P2033, P242D or P040D, please refer to the Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal diagnosis. For the correct component locations refer to WSM Section 309-00B/C, Description and Operation, Exhaust System – Component Location, image E211808. For EGT11 refer to item number 7, for EGT12 refer to item number 6 and for EGT13 refer to itemnumber 5. The EGRT sensor is located on the exhaust manifold near the engine. SSM: 47087

Hey Saeb.
Have been googling my bum off since i got home from work trying to find the locations of the EGT sensors on 2016 MK2 Ford Ranger and which main 1 or 2 i should be monitoring via FORscan. I have been monitoring EGT11 for the past month since i finally got a OBD link and FORscan. I have been noticing from time to time my EGT can get up to 660-700*C. I called my local Ford dealership and they told me the ONLY EGT sensor was fitted before the DPF so those temps were bad news and i needed to book it in for a check. I also called my local ARB dealer who do all my 4wd work and they told me that it was just DPF heat the sensor was picking up because it was after the DPF.
Im just at a loss trying to figure out which EGT i should be monitoring for accurate combustion EGT temps.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, i dont have access to the information you reference in this post.
Thanks mate.

There are numerous posts about it. Try searching egt11.
What you are see temp wise is the DPF burn off and is normal on a DPF equipped vehicle. It is feeding addition diesel through to accomplish the burn off.

Hi Saeb,
I'm getting code P040D - EGR Temp Sensor A Circuit High on my 2015 pre dpf PX2 ranger, since late last week.
I'm not experiencing loss of power or limp mode but I want to clear the code if possible.
In the service procedure of forscan there is an option for me to reset the EGT learned value but I don't want to do that without knowing it wont break the car.
It might be worth noting I had it tuned about 2 years ago although that's probably irrelevant.

I don't believe that resetting the learned values will help but you will not break anything by trying.
I most likely that the sensor is faulty and requires replacement.

I've been getting a "P040C EGR Temp Sensor A Circuit Low" on my 2015 Everest intermittently for the last couple of weeks. As Stewart said, Im also thinking the sensor is faulty.

Hi Guys
Wondering if you had any luck With the P040D - EGR Temp Sensor A Circuit High fault, my px2 2015 pre dpf just started doing the same thing, except Sensor Circuit B high, what I have found is if you tow it actually causes the problem to be very obvious when driving with almost stalling/ missing symptoms when loading the engine up a hill.
Using a can tool PID’s 11 & 12 appear to read correct but PID 13 is not reading.
Not sure if they are related but I also have all glow plug Circuit faults P0671, 2, 3, 4, 5 and P0480 Fan 1 Control Circuit.

Replace the EGR temp sensor on the exhaust manifold around cyl number 3 area which will resolve it.
Apart from the all you glow plugs require replacement including a PCM update.
If you have always had is serviced at Ford then speak to them about it as you may get it done for nothing.

I assume the above solution should work for P040C DTC as well? I've just had that intermittently coming up over the last week.

That is what the sensor is, so yes. I replaced mine after the warning came up once.
Being a 2016 it would be about due.

Howdy folks. Just started getting the same on mine. DPF equipped PX2: P040D - EGR Temperature Sensor A Circuit High
Seems to happen after giving a squirt getting onto a freeway and sometime just sitting on 100KM/h on freeway.
Put an EVC throttle controller on about 2 weeks ago and then this came up last week, so I took the controller off.
Cleared the DTC and retested still comes up. Most other values in Forscan seem about line ball except DPF load, but I guess this is normal.
Is Part number CC1A12B591EA the correct part for this vehicle?

PJ XLT, 2016 PX2 XLS. Can only drive one at a time, but the PX is nicer and doesn't smell like the PJ.

Should be all the same but if in doubt message your VIN to Jefferson Ford on eBay and they will respond. You my above part number as reference and to see if it is the same.

Howdy. Rang Ford and they are apparently superseded by a new part. CC1Z12B591E.
Parts guy reckons he sell a lot of them. $66 or so. Replaced with a smear of nickel anti size on the thread and it appears that it has fixed the other slight issue I had which was an intermittent hesitation on hard acceleration, like freeway onramp.
Thinking it might actually be an intentional strategy like haptic feedback. "car doing something funny, get a man" result. Anyone confirm this behaviour is intentional?

Can confirm that the new part number is the right one. Sensor is a touch shorter than the old one, and the cabling outer sheath is different.
Can't confirm intentional behaviour, but I reckon they might just give bad readings before they fail and throw a code. My one is definitely a bit smoother than it was before.
