Hey guys,
Just curious if anyone else is running trans temp? Just want to compare temp reading and figure what is normal.
Two hour return drive, freeway and local roads my trans temp reached 97 degrees C. Also does the readout top out at 100? As it got to 100 once and no higher.

I don't have an auto, but from what I've heard 97 is normal as the trans is cooled with engine coolant.
Others will know for sure and should be along shortly...

Mine usually sits around 86 to 90 towing the van, without it is a more constant 86
Saw 94 recently towing @ 100kph, uphill with a tail wind, 30deg but 85% humidity.
I am getting my trans serviced soon and getting the Thermostat removed.

Towing 3 tonne van at 100 up here in the Territory sits at 104. Goes up to 107 at 105k/hr. Remember ambient temperature is usually about 35. Without van sits just under 100.

Thanks guys, about 10-15 degrees difference compared to mine and wasn’t a hot day here in Melb. I wouldn’t think at 55k Klm it needs trans service yet. Something to watch.

If you have done quite a bit of towing then the trans needs a service.
I will get mine serviced every 30,000 towing or not.
The Ranger trans aren't known for strength and longtivity.

It does get warm in that country and l would fit an oil cooler and get the Thermostat removed from the trans, it will drop the trans Temp quite a bit.
This cooler is easy to fit, you don't have to remove the bullbar, winch bar or grill to fit it.

Melbourne, generally 87 to 89. 0 to 110kph.
Get out and start climbing some hills out of Melbourne, maybe 94 tops.
Approx 2.8 T, Bar, Winch, Spot Lights, Back Plates etc.
Also depends which ATF codes you are using as there will be a difference in temps at the top end.

Queens birthday weekend in Melbourne (mid teens) I saw mine(Everest) hit 105 towing 2.7t van to Queenscliff.
Fitted Wholesale Automatics (very expensive) double cooler.
This week's trip to alice springs sits on 95 doing 110kph.
Only saw it hit 98 going through Adelaide. (Stop\start)

Hi Brett. When you fitted your wholesale automatics cooler did you change the trans thermostat or not?Brett_32i wrote: ↑Mon Sep 30, 2019 8:26 pm Queens birthday weekend in Melbourne (mid teens) I saw mine(Everest) hit 105 towing 2.7t van to Queenscliff.

My guess would be he didn't do the trans bypass mod or it would run cooler.twodogs wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2019 11:47 amHi Brett. The Wholesale Automatics oil cooler is made by PWR but they change the mounting plate to one with their name on it.
I have the PWR cooler fitted & it certainly helps.
The bypass drops the temp more but it costs from $600 to $800 to get done, depending on the mechanic.
If you have warranty the cooler shouldn't affect it but the bypass will.

No, I didn't fit the bypass.
The wholesale kit runs 2 pwr cores.
I have seen another type that runs a single thicker per core. Can't remember who sells them.
But I would prefer that style.
Most likely a lot cheaper than wholesale too

hi all, when installing dedicated ATF temp gauge, where to we get the info from? ie, sensor location, is there an access point or does it need to be modified with bung etc? Using Redarc setup on BT50

Genereally few if anyone will fit one being we are reading the factory dedicated ATF sensor from the transmission with an Ultragauge, Scangauge or similar.

How many different codes are there for this as I feel mine is reading higher at the top end?saeb wrote: ↑Mon Aug 26, 2019 3:07 pm Melbourne, generally 87 to 89. 0 to 110kph.

One runs at a higher temperature than the other.
You would be hard pressed to get consistent average temps due to driving conditions and ambient temperatures and different vehicles etc.
If the temp on a stock trans is around 94 to 98 that would be OK.
Remember stock cooling has the coolant from the motor piping through the transmission so there is a lot of load on the radiator
