How to Upgrade Sync 2 to Sync 3

Every time I tried to scan for an update it either:
- Just stops with no message
- Thinks for a long time and then advises “previous scan was incomplete, last scan 07/12/2017”

I'm in the same boat Dave.
Since installing Sync 3 in March & updating to V3.0 build 18093 via USB, mine hasn't seemed to connect to the server via wifi correctly. No matter how many times I check via wifi it says "last checked for updates: 02/03/2019" ....interestingly the day after my Sync3 install. Ford Owners site doesn't accept the .xml update confirmation file either, generated from the USB update. Says "Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again"
Hoping that the pre MY18.5 Sync3 units will one day move past Build 18093 and wifi will pick this up. In turn that will report back to the Ford owners site that we're running both Sync 3 & the updated version. (is v3.0 build 18261 or 19119 a thing for us pre MY18.5 people?) <saw these mentioned on other forums.
If so, i wonder if this will end up being available via wifi
A request to anyone that is running v3.0, build 18093, and Ford Owners is saying you're up to date, when it does say there is an update, can you give us the heads up?

Just a heads up. Looks to be an updated version of Sync3 V3.0 for us pre MY18.5 cars.
Previously V3.0 build 18093 had a file name when downloaded from the Ford Owners site of "JR3T-14G381-AM-PKS"
I just started another download after reading about some people officially updating to V3.0 Build 19205 via usb.
Downloaded filename is now JR3T-14G381-AS-PKS.
I haven't installed yet to see if it is V3.0, build 19205.
I am hoping that it becomes available via wifi so the Ford servers might report my own VIN as having Sync3!

what about new updated maps can that now be done through wifi also now or usb or still Ford only?

No, take it to the dealer where maps updates are free for 7 years. If they fight it show them their own website.

RE: The reporting of your Sync3 version on the fordowners site, seems Ford must've put a check on the VIN numbers? So if there is a mismatch it'll always end up with the "Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again" error. ie: You're in the Sync3 donor cars listing, but trying to upload the .xml with your own VIN.
Editing the .xml file back to the donor car's VIN, and it'll accept it. Accepted the build 18093 & 19205 .xml files after doing this.
Doesn't help have your car report it's got Sync3, but at least I'll be able to see when an update is available i guess.

True Dave, it would if you just found a Sync3 VIN online (eg: carsales or the like) and used that. You'd stuff up the future owners ability to update. But in my case, I'm using the VIN from the wreck I got my Sync3 hardware from, so no harm done.

Report XML file contains your own VIN so it's not an issue.

First of all, thank you to everybody who provided all this information.

I am in the UK with a 2016 manual Wildtrak. Normal cruise control + front parking sensors.
I upgraded to the Sync3 today but I have one problem. The reverse camera does not come on when put into reverse.
I believe the Sync3 unit I got was from an auto and my truck is a manual.

Does anybody know what I need to change in forscan to get the camera to work?

I'm guessing I'm not alone here as I just got my new sync3 from Stewart and installed it using this thread that vnhon2 started as my main source of info, messaged Stewart for a minor clarification but all in all this thread was an invaluable how to, the clarification for what it's worth was do I leave the original GPS antenna plugged into the original car harness or toss it, so if you are wondering the call was chuck It. I had already put the new antenna in the originals position but was not sure if an error would present if I left the old one unplugged.

hey guys, very informative thread here, I'm going to start my sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade soon. I'm trying to source a proper Fakra GPS Antenna, one which is reliable and won't give me problems. Some of the ebay links seem to be dead. Can anyone recommend a good GPS?

I'm also looking for the USB Loom adapter, should I be looking for a 2a or 2b adapter, and do any sell them in Australia?

Just finished my Sync 2 to Sync 3 upgrade. Just going to post my findings here.

The post on this thread was superb, absolutely spot on. I did use a YouTube video just for visual clarification on removing bits and pieces. https://youtu.be/NCFXmRDgcBQ

I ended up getting the sync 3 unit from a wrecker for about $400. This was from a 2022 Wildtrack. I was a bit skeptical at first because it did look a little different to all of the sync 3 units I've seen around. (It ended up fitting and was fine)

I bought:

GPS Module: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/22350253858 ... media=COPY
Sync 2A Adapter: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/15528008661 ... edia=COPY
I also purchased an adapter from a saeb.net store wp/product/forscan-usb-dongle-windows-10-support/

It took me about 3 hours to do end to end. Alot of prying and just having faith the clips won't break.

I then found a 2017 Wildtrack AsBuild on the web. (Got the vin number from carsales)

Very happy with it all. All works good. Only downside from buying from a PX3 rather than a PX2 is you only get one USB port.

Evening all.

Finally got around to a SYNC3 upgrade in our 2016 Wildtrak this evening. Picked up a Sync3 Unit from a 2021 Wildtrak and the USB hub.
Thanks for all the great guides and information on here. Just waiting on the GPS module and adapter cable for the USB Hub to arrive.

Two issues on install that i came across. First was no heated seats on the unit and reverse camera is not working.
Located the .ab for a 2017 wildtrak and loaded that in. Heated seats are back.

But i still have no reverse camera. Anyone else come across this issue? i thought maybe the .AB would fix it, but still nothing when i put the car into reverse.

The Sync3 unit is out of an Auto and the .AB is also from an Auto. Mine is a Manual - does this matter? and should i try and locate a 2017 Wildtrak Manual APIM .AB to fix this?

Update.
Checked all config in APIM Module COnfiguration and rear camera was enabled.
Found a different factory AsBuilt, 2018 wildtrak manual - Same issues
Tried again.
This time on boot the camera displayed. out of reverse and camera cleared as expected.
Except this time, Sync3 came up asking me if i wanted to opt in to auto updates (first time i have seen this)
Now it seems to be working.

Also found the posts after about auto/manual transmission. i need to polish my searching skills
