Hi guys.

Is it possible to have more options showing the temp gauge. I’d like temp/fuel showing with Speedo or fuel economy. At present, temp/fuel will only show with Tachometer on 17 XLT Ranger.

No mate, can't do. You are stuck with the temp, fuel and RPM.

Thanks Stewart. That’s a bit ordinary. Is there any other warning if the engine is overheating?

I assume it would come up with a warning like the seat belt type of display, it would probably go in to limp mode and through an engine check light if it got to hot also.

These are all assumptions.

Mount an old Android phone and have temp as one of the displayed gauges in Torque or similar app.

I have listed the main ones here. viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1992

There are others like Transmission not up to temp also.

Out of interest I have been watching engine temp via OBD Link app for the last week. Mostly just in the mornings until it warms up properly.

I have been doing min 500km up to 900+ each day. A bit of load in the back and an enclosed trailer with a couple of motorbikes in it. Nothing compared to some of the caravan rigs I have been seeing.

Highest temp I had seen was 94, but ambient temps were max 26 until yesterday.

Yesterday I had a strong side wind and ambient temps climbed also. At 30 ambient I had 100c, it went up to 38c ambient and I saw up to 105c.

I did some managing by turning the A/C off and dropping speed back to 100kph. I am sure that without doing so it would have runaway to overheat.

I pulled up and removed the light bar and the flyscreen that I had for grass seeds and insects. I dont think the light bar would stop much but I knew the flyscreen would.

So it was back to a stock ute with a ford bull bar.

I still saw 102c going up the long gentle slopes but it would drop back going down so I didnt feel it was going to runaway. Then I went through the low that was sucking in the hot air and the wind changed and ambient dropped off hugely so all was fine.

As with one of my landcruisers I had, the dash temp gauge just tells you it has overheated.

Fly screen is not the best thing in hot weather, especially since Ford will deny engine warranty with just an aftermarket Raptor grille, which has a large honeycomb pattern.

The fly screen keeps the spear grass and insects out of the cooling fins so good long term but it does stop air flow. It was a bit blocked from insects.

I didnt expect to see 102c after removing so just wanted to spread the word to those that tow caravans to watch their temps.
