I've fitted a Scangauge and set it up to display transmission temperature.

Does anyone know what the upper limit would be for transmission temperature for a Ford Ranger PX2 2016 ?

The Rangers have a warning message/alert which will display if the transmission gets too hot. So there must be some kind of set point in the ECU to trigger that.

I will check with my dealer but thought I would try here first.

From what I've been able to glean from some other posts not relating to Rangers, 104 C seems to be an upper limit commonly used.

Mine is 200, but it will never reach that.

The car will set off a warning when it reaches Ford's predetermined temp which I don't know.

My dealer also told me there are 3 Auto trans used which all have different maximum temps due to different trans fluid.

If you tow in hot weather it is quite possible it will exceed 104.

I would wait for Stewart to reply if I were you.

Mine's a manual, so I don't know either. However, I do know that the oil is cooled via the engine cooling system, so I'd expect it to be somewhere close to engine temp...???

Service manual states 120 from memory, but that is max operating temp, no idea what the set point to throw a warning on the cluster is though as it is not in any docs. What ever it is I wouldn't like to be there.

I haven't had a response from Ford dealer yet (and may not) You'd think it would be in their interests to avoid warranty claims from cooked transmission.

Certainly up over 105C I think I'd be wanting to back off the accelerator a bit.

In my Ranger service manual it recommends replacing the auto transmission fluid at 240 000 km or 10 years whichever first.
Given a lot of towing in hot ambient conditions maybe half that would be sensible.

That set point for the alarm is still of interest if I can find it hopefully via Ford.

I've never had it come on even say towing up Eyre peninsular, 44C outside, 90km/hr 2.2 tonne caravan, strong NE headwind.
