This has been on my to do list since purchasing the Ranger
It’s a very straight forward job, I think I spent more time making the harness than fitting the complete system.
There is already ample amount on how to do this so I won’t go into to much detail.
You can also go to YouTube
So this is what I used:
x3 meters of 3mm twin cable
x3 meters of split tubing
Matching OEM connectors
Actuator (slave) and metal bar that came with it
Bullet terminals (to connect to actuator)
x10 Cable ties
All up cost of parts around $35.00
Remove the cover off the tail gate, if you take off one of the end supports the trim can slide off
I did not take the complete trim off the underside of the guard you only need to remove a few of the retaining clips to be able to get your hand up and release the connector.
The connector has a clip that needs to be depressed so it can be removed, this image shows its approx orientation, the clip to be depressed is on the left side of the image.
Then it’s just a case of connecting in the new loom
Run the harness down on the right-hand side of the fuel inlet so it exits on the other side
Then follow the existing cable back to the rear of the car, using cable ties to hold it in place
Then cross over to the outer side just passed the rear shackle
Then pass through an existing opening out to the bottom of the tailgate
Select where you want to have it enter into the tail gate, I used the very first opening, then into the main area of the tail gate
Next fit the actuator, again there are many ways to do this, I was not going to use the cable tie method so drilled x2 3mm holes, 1 in the centre of the locking mechanism for the metal rod to locate the second in the top of the tailgate as an extra support to the actuator.
The metal bar will need a larger hole 8mm drilled on the end, so the existing bolt will pass through it, I also bent the metal bar so it would fit on top of the mounting point.
Remove the bolt that holds the locking mechanism in and fit the assembly in.
I drilled a 3mm hole in the top of the tailgate so the actuator is held nicely in place, you can then slide the actuator within the metal bar to align up with the hole once lined up, then remove and tighten the 2 screws holding the actuator to the metal bar (you will need to remove from the tailgate to do this) then put back on.
Bend the metal rod into a Z shape, so you will need to measure the distance from the centre hole of the actuator head and the hole that has been drilled.
As you can see the head of the actuator is removable it just clips off.
Once all is fitted tighten up all the screws
Connect the harness
Test operation make sure all doors are closed, if the doors lock and the actuator unlocks change the wires over that plug directly into the actuator
When all working correctly use cable ties to secure all cables
I have a few OEM connectors so if anyone what’s just shoot me a PM but provide a return email
Next mod is a auto fold mirror module that should arrive in a couple of weeks, will be interesting as its supposedly plug and play

Great write up. Very informative and easy to follow. Have done this mod myself. One of the cheapest/easiest and best mods you can do yourself

Great tutorial, and detailed photos. I've actually already done but I am very interested in the automatic folding mirrors you mentioned, please let us know how you get on with that. I would like to add that to mine.

They have just arrived (got a handful as it was more cost effective for freight) will be fitting over the weekend not true plug and play as you still need to connect 3 wires the lock/unlock actuator circuit and power.Flashwatches wrote: ↑Wed Dec 05, 2018 11:12 am Great tutorial, and detailed photos.
