I'm running Sync 3 ( most up to date version, according to Ford owners website) and Android phone. I was under the impression, if not using Android Auto, you could use App link for apps like Spotify, etc.? I'm not able to get any apps on my phone working with Applink and I've followed the instructions on the Ford website. Is anyone experiencing same issue? Is there a work-around?
Cheers, James

I think it all changed and spotify etc now hides in audio sources in AA like how google maps and waze show up.

Some that do work are Sygic car nav and Ford+Alexa, you will need to download the later elsewhere as it is not in a play store.

You have to talk to Alexa but there is a lot you can talk about.

Unfortunately, mobile apps and AA cannot be enabled at the same time.

I owe you a PM also, I'm getting there but have not stopped.

Fair enough. I'll stick with AA then. I tried downloading Sygic, but couldn't get it to link. The only app I've managed to get to link over the weekend was an app called Ford Play.

No rush on the PM - I know you're a busy man.

Be sure to get the Sygic Car Navigation Version. Standard Sygic will not work.

Google maps is still a better option though, if going away use and going to lose GSM then use the offline map feature in Google maps and everything will still work except traffic.

Tried something else today only because you now brought it up.

Fordpass works to an extent. It did update the phone even though I was using AA. ODO, does not seem to work, Oil life most likely won't work as I doubt it has been enabled in the IPC and the assumption is if a DTC is thrown, probably only PCM TCM it should say something on the screen, untested so who knows.

So working is
DTE
Last known location before unplugging your phone, good if you forget where you parked.
Fuel Stations with pricing!!

Not working
Dealer locations but we have an app for that.
I doubt roadside assist will work either.

It is US based only and you need to register on Ford Owners US site, also would need to download app from a 3rd party source and have a UD address ready when signing up. My address for some reason is exactly the same as Ford Motor Company World Headquarters, 1 American Rd, Dearborn, MI 48126, USA if you need it.

With Ford's announcement yesterday that Fordpass is coming to Australia, do any of you think we could add the Mobile connectivity module to existing PX3 Rangers to enable this? Stewart mentions above it got it working sort of, would it work if the ranger was connected to WiFi?

It relies on a TCU module which existing vehicle in Aus do not have. Overseas modules are no good due to a different GSM network so if Ford don't want to charge a million dollars for new TCUs then it shod be a goer for existing vehicle.

Now being it should be Sync 4 10 inch minimum in the higher vehicles we need to check if the TCU will now be intergrated into it or is still a seperate unit. I should have that answer shortly.

Wifi has nothing to do with Ford pass connectivity.

Just to follow up the TCU module is still a seperate module so with some trickery it should be no problem.

Stuart, I work in the Telecomms industry and GSM is dead all over the world, I suspect that the modules used in the USA and Europe would work just fine here, as we are all on the same standards, particularly as it relates to LTE (4G), 3G in Australia is on its way out with at lease one carrier announcing its intention to turn off 3G in the next couple of years.

SO if you can get hold of a US TCU and we can fit an Australian SIM it should work just fine.

Unsure if current ones are 4G or not, have not researched it enough. I know they are using AT&T for the service in the US.

Getting hold of a TCU is no problems, so might get my mate to send one over when I grab some more parts.

Hi Stuart

If it’s AT&T pretty simple to swap a sim unless it’s an imbedded sim or eSIM in which case we are stuffed.

If it’s a recent module then it’s highly likely it’s 4G

How does it connect into the ranger? Is there a port already ?

If so it likely to be either USB or high speed serial

The other thing we could look at is that the modules are all pretty standard not many vendors make the chip sets.

On another note I’ve enabled the off road gauges in my PX3 ranger but the only information I get is steering wheel angle no pitch and roll.

1. The module has been around for many years, it is not new. Also being an embedded SIM was another reason I never looked into it further a few years ago.

2. TCU is connected in to the canbus and linked with the APIM, no USB nor serial. It is intergrated in at a build level and although it is not trivial to add the above means..........

3. It is locked to the Sync3 ESN also and although can be unlocked and used on a different vehicle, point 1 applies.

4. Rangers apart fro the Raptor do not support pitch and roll.

5. Ford were to release an OBD adatptor that would do similar things to a TCU after 2 years I still have not seen one. I expect the 2021 Ranger/Everest to have a properly intergrated TCU like the US and Euro models but its plausible they will release this OBD version before that.

Stuart

Just reading the history of this post do you have fordpass working in some fashion? If so how did you get it connected?

Also another off topic question is it possible to change any parameters in the CarPlay configs. It locks out dilating, address book and add new call as soon as any movement is detected it’s not an Apple specific phone parameter as it works just fine on other CarPlay installations.

I did have it but have since removed. At the end of the day all you will get, at least on a PX2 is ODO and DTE. A little pointless as you see it when you get in and out of the vehicle. I see no real benifet from unless you are in US and have the TCU, so the vehicle can be remote started, locked and unlocked etc.

From memory I had to side load the app on Android as I don't believe it's available on the Australian Play store, I cannot vouch for Apple as I have not used it in years.

Nothing on a Sync 3 with Carplay or AA is editable. Everything is written into binary files and cannot be edited.

Hi Stuart,

I have a question, my ranger is a late 2019 model, I have the WiFi connected to my home network, when it is in the garage the prod pass app is connecting to the Ranger, the only 2 items I can see is odometer and fuel level, its not been driven since Monday and it is updating several times per day.

Is there a way to turn on the other features such as remote start remote lock unlock etc.?

Or do I need to the other module to enable those features?

Regards,

Paul

Needs TCU to operate correctly. Your vehicle does not have this module so that is all you will see.

Pretty much same as my last answer.

Honestly I see no benefit from fitting one. Starting to fit remote start modules to the MY20.25 now anyway as people have no interest in pulling a phone out to start the vehicle.
