Hi Guys I’ve been wondering these Racechip chips are they any good, a buddy of mine installed one in his new Ford Ranger Raptor and he says it made a huge difference in power and fuel. I was wondering maybe installing one on my 2018 3.2 Ranger but I’m wondering if it will be worth it and will the engine be ok ? Any feedback would be appreciated thanks

No and no.
You are paying for something that only increases fuel rail pressure, nothing else. One parameter vs 100s with a proper flash tune. Do it properly or not at all.
But each to their own and we all have different budgets.

I read an article a few years ago by a tuner that listed the different methods chips used to make gains.
Like Stewart said many just raise rail pressure many claim to do more.
The bottom line from the article and what I believe is that unless you are getting a dyno run to get AFR readings then you dont know what you really have.
There are always glowing claims of what a chip has done but if you want to search I am sure you will find plenty of horror stories.
This article does explain a lot but is not conclusive either.

Thanks for the replies! I have decided against it my 3.2 has enough power for my purpose. Thinking of only doing a good branded aftermarket exhaust. Had one on my Hilux previous to the ranger and made a huge difference in many areas.

Putting an aftermarket exhaust on is a waste of money if you have a DPF.
There are no power gains and the exhaust note doesn't increase.
The DPF is a giant muffler, take your exhaust off and try it.
Sounds the same on or off.

Hi RossPat
Here in South Africa our vehicles don't have a DPF

At one time I would have said a definate yes but now I am not sure.
My mate who does them has had mixed results lately and he tunes them on the same 4wd dyno.
Then of course if you remove it and get caught the EPA fine is huge so you got to weigh up the possible gains against a fine in the thousands.
They are easy to spot with a DPF removal, exhaust is noisy compared to stock and there is a puff of black smoke now and then.

Was talking dpf removal with a Toyota owner, he demonstrated that putting your finger in the exhaust pipe and wiping it was all that was needed to show black soot and no dpf

I beg to differ from most here - I have had a racechip GTS on my MY18 PX2 for about 60,000 km. No adverse effects, improved performance and possibly slightly better fuel economy. The GTS isn't just rail pressure, it also plugs into MAP and coolant temp, allegedly runs stock fueling when engine is cold. I've noticed no difference in coolant temps, slight EGT increase under load but nothing whilst cruising and same trans temps.
