Had the Ranger serviced and had to book it in again as the timing cover looked like it was leaking, again, just moisture around the seal but safe to drive. In this time did a trip around 650 klms. Trip meter showed around 9.5 ltrs per 100 klms. Got it back from the timing cover change and have only done 50 klms but trip meter is showing 18.6 ltrs per 100 klms now, reset the reading when I fill up. Would they reset any settings when they changed the timing cover? Don't know why it would be needed. This reading is quite high, never had it that high before from memory and can see it is showing on the petrol gauge as well. They have reset things before at services and have to drive it for a while for it to relearn things but don't know if this is a normal thing this time.

Took it to Ford today and explained to them the possible problem. They scanned for faults, not one. They took it for a drive up the freeway for 20 klms after resetting the gauge. Showed 9.2 ltrs per 100 klms, normal. Last 2 bars on the bar graph usage showed very high readings when I dropped it off, somewhere in the high 20's, that looks like it could be back to normal now as well. All I can do now is keep an eye on it.

They disconnected the battery. It wiped the temporary learned data from the cluster is all.
