As the title says, do you reckon it's possible to retrofit a DPF to a ute that didnt have it fitted at the factory?

Anything is possible but pretty certain you will need a compatible PCM as the bootloader would not be compatible in the other unit to accept the correct calibration files, although Barry may inform otherwise.

Loom across the gear box to all 3 EGT sensors.

You may get away with just these changes as there is nothing else involved in the chain.

You know I want to ask, why?

Cheers Stewart. The reason I'm even raising the question is it's a bit stinky on start-up (nothing visible though), and reducing the particulates is always a good thing.

Mine doesn't have one either. I've had three letters from Ford asking me to return it to the dealer to have one fitted, which I have politely declined on the basis of it was purchased in "good faith". I will admit I was made aware of the "missing" component before I paid cash for my Wildtrak, I almost did cartwheels in the sales yard.
From what I can dredge up, (and getting information from Ford regarding this is like pulling teeth out of a chicken), there were 53 PX2 Utes built without a PDF in 2017 before they were shipped to Australia. They were to have the "missing" components fitted at a later date that Ford hoped would occur before they were sold. I believe that this did occur in 46 cases so there are possibly five more utes out there without a DPF and unaccounted for. It would be interesting to find out who they are and who owns them.
You can easily pick it by the fact there is only 5 metal injector lines, and not 6 -- the last going to the DPF. The DPF regeneration program has been erased from the ECU or simply never programmed. My guess is that Ford Thailand ran out of DPF exhaust components and rather than stop a 24/7 clockwork production line simply made the cars without the DPF using old stock that was on hand from the older PX1 production run.
Mine doesn't "stink" on start-up nor does it discharge any exhaust smoke on acceleration. If I were you I'd leave well enough alone.

Like a lot of these specialists mods Richard, they are way beyond what is reasonable to spend before just replacing the vehicle.

If I was go to do it, I would try and pull parts from one vehicle but have that Donar vehicle still available for more parts. Also keep in mind if PCM is replaced, PATs will also need to be redone by a dealer.

That indicates a very poor diet Stewart :-)

I believe that there are quite a few dyno tuners who have, at the owners request, removed the DPF and retuned the car accordingly, if I were Richard and I really wanted the DPF fitted I'd go to one of these tuners and have them fit one that they had removed, they would have all the components required for a full retrofit.
Getting a tuner or mechanic to admit to having carried out what amounts to an illegal emission control removal will I guess be an issue though. As you said though Stewart, a trip to a dealer for a full re-programming of the ECU once the DPF has been fitted would be required.

Cheers guys. I'll have a sniff around some of the tuners... no biggie if it doesn't work out...
