This will depend on vehicle year as the XL now supports temp.

If someone can test my findings and report back. This may work on all existing XLS models.

Stewart,
I used the data listed in your spread sheet to enable the out side temp display.
The temp is displayed in the top left side of centre display (above radio).
The dealer told me that it could not be displayed because my vehicle didn't have the temp sensor, I showed him that I could see it on torque pro with a cheap obd2 scanner. Reply was that I was reading the intake air temp.
My ranger is a 2016 XLS.
I hope this helps.

XLS has a temp sensor, XL does not in a 2016.

Not a chance in this life time that the radio would even be capable of showing the temp from the AIT sensor.

In torque it is plausible that you were looking at the AIT sensor but the radio would never read that PID.

The changes are correct to show the temp form the correct sensor for the radio and its all possible that you will be able to see the same temp data on you instrument cluster if you use the above changes in that module.

The vehicles delivered to Australia that did have the temp displayed on the radio was a mistake. These vehicles asbuilts were slightly different, probably Thai spec and the temp was never intended to be displayed here.

You could also ask you dealer why the base menu in the radio has an option to change from Celcius to fahrenheit.

You have done the FDCIM from the sheet now do the IPC above. These are totally seperate.

I may have put my foot in it and it's possible the radio does display the IAT, I really doubt it though. Another member is testing radio temp and instrument cluster temp at the same time and they are both reading different temps.

It appears that the cluster temp may be closer to the actual but only further testing by members with XL and XLS and 2016 vs 2017 will prove this.

So naddis01 has temp now on an XL 2015 but they were not meant to come with a temp sensor.

The only way to get to the bottom of what is right or wrong is for naddis01 or another member wants check if his vehicle has the temp sensor in front of the radiator.

I will have a look and see what happens and get back to you on this.
Re the sensor, I had both the ambient temp and the iat displayed at the same time in torque. The iat was always 1-2 degrees higher, to test the "plug blanking cap" I warmed it slightly with a hair dyer, I was not surprised when the ambient temp display went up.
They didn't manage to do any of the changes that I asked for telling me that they weren't available on a XLS, I have done most of the things that I wanted following your spread-sheet. I will ask you about them in a new thread so as not to hijack this one.

I can't find a temp sensor in front of my radiator on my 2015 XL.

Hello Stewart,

I have finally been able to get back to this.
I made the above change to the IPC and can confirm that I now have the temp display on the instrument cluster and the sync screen, Both are displaying the same Temp.
I can also confirm that the sensor on the radiator support panel is responsible for the displayed temp.
Sorry for the delay I have been in bed for the past week with one of the lurgies that seems to be going around.

Hope this is of some value,
Tony.

Got a photo of where the temp sensor is? I can't find it on my 2015 XL but have enabled it to display on the instrument cluster only, not on the sync screen.

That's interesting Tony. Nick's XL with no sensor in front of the radiator is showing a different temp on the IPC vs radio and he has no front sensor.

Get well mate.

Nick, the front sensor was only added on the 2017+ in an XL. I'm really unsure where your vehicle is pulling the 2 temps from...

Just to clarify. I do not have a temp reading on the radio (sync screen). It is only showing on my instrument cluster. The differing temps are between the instrument cluster reading and the reading showing on my laptop through Forscan.

Thanks Nick. I wonder if your IPC has a built in temp sensor and it's coming from that? It is not meant to have it and has no external temp sensor so it's the only thing that makes sense. It may revert to built in if another sensor is unavailable. Next time you plug in see if you have any fault codes on the IPC.

What do both of you have here *? This will change where the IPC gets its outside air temp from.

I have an 8 in that position.

Both the instrument cluster and Forscan are showing the same temperature today.

I'm thinking the vehicle has a sensor inside the vehicle. It rings a bell and I'm sure I have seen info on it somewhere. An 8 means it reading it from the front controls interface module from memory.

I will not look at it further as I do not have an XL or XLS. Everything matches so where the 2015 gets temp from is unknown, somewhere in the cab is my thoughts as it will be wired back to the centre console switch area.

We have shown it works on XL and XLS with no regard to year.

Adding the 'E' added the temp to the instrument cluster in my 2017 XLS.... I also have an '8' in the same position as the other lads

Thanks fireguard.

I will amend the Forscan list to include the option to select where the temp comes from. If one option does not work then try another option.

Try it.

Some XL had the temp sensor and some did not. If it is not there then you will just have no temp reading.
