Hi all
I have a 2015 PX MK2 ford Ranger 110,000 klm and in need for some advise, help, anything that will stop the tapping/ticking noise that (seems) to be coming from the dash/air vents etc.
There are two things left for me to do.
The first was to come here and ask for your help as to identifying and fixing the noise or to call a priest and perform a ritual or exorcism
The tapping/ticking noise started three weeks ago.
Once the vehicle is not moving and motor has reached operating temperature at (idle RPM only) is when the noise can be heard ! Once you press the accelerator after stopping at a red light it goes away, engine runs perfectly when driving and noise comes back again at the next stop. However it doesn't always do it at every stop. There is no loss of power, no engine vibration at idle, no smoke at the exhaust and no warning lights on the dash.
So one of the first things I did was to check all actuators/HVAC thinking it was one of them causing the noise, but after disconnecting the electrical plug on all four and driving around the noise is still there. I then purchased an Ford Ranger OBD2 scanner from OBD2 Australia plugged it in but there are no fault codes. I then purchased a Forscan adaptor and downloaded Forscan, did a buzz test on the injectors thinking it may be them but they are fine and still no fault codes.
Can a faulty EGR be making this noise
Is it a pinging noise and if so is it normal for it to be heard inside the car
What could this be?
Don't want to take it to Ford cause of bad experiences from the past, so I am hoping that someone here is able to help.
I am in Thomastown and willing to travel anywhere in Victoria.
Cheers Tony

Ah right, sorry, yes, you wrote that in the prior post. I guess there's no harm in putting something like LiquiMoly Injector Cleaner cleaner though, maybe it'll help. IIRC the glow plugs (one of mine has failed recently) can affect idle quality, but no fault codes suggests all is well (probably). There's "TSB 22-2212 - Effective Jun 23 2022 2015-2022" for "Ranger And Everest/Endeavour Vehicles Built From 01-Jul-2015 EquippedWith A 2.2L or 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi (Puma) Engine - Noise Coming From The FEAD Belt And Tensioner", but not sure that would match your symptoms.

Hi rjbarrington
Sorry for the late reply. To be honest I have tried the LiquiMoly but did not include this in my original post.
I am determined to find out what it is. I went and purchased a Mechanics Stethoscope yesterday from Repco and will give that a go today or tomorrow.
Will keep you posted as it is driving me crazy.

Hi Lincolnland
Well the noise has stopped.
I have attached photo's of the guilty Blower Motor.
The most amazing thing about this noisy Blower Motor is that it will make noise while it was off.
So using a mechanic's stethoscope I pinpointed the noise and ordered a new one.
Took less than 10 min to swap.
I then proceeded to try and pull the old one apart and you will not believe what I found!
The electrical Blower Motor was vibrating inside the outer plastic housing which is suppose to hold it in place, causing wear and tear to the outer housing and creating a very fine black dust which you can see in the photo's.
Like I said in my original post, noise can only be heard when the engine was in idle coming through the air vents.
Thank God its quieter now.

Well done and THANKS for putting up the final answer and outcome. So many posts where the original poster doesn’t stare what eventually occurred!
