No probs, with your update after I changed all the asbuilt data I couldn't get my sync 3 with v2.2 software to show on fords website that I had Sync 3 instead of 2. I ended up doing the update manually with a thumb drive, after that I tried to do an auto update knowing that it was already up to date. After doing this my VIN on Fords website showed sync3 with V3.0 software.

I have Sync 3 V3.0 software for a 2017 XLT Ranger if you need it. If you all ready have it make sure you format your thumb drive to exFAT as FAT32 didn't work for me.

Thanks Dan, I’ve already updated the unit to V3.0 and it showed up on the Ford Owners site, so all good. Maps are a version behind, so will need to get them updated at next service. Just this GPS issue to fix then all good.

Quick follow up. Recommended GPS unit arrived yesterday and fitted it today. All sorted, no errors or faults and navigation working perfectly now.

Hi Guys, I did the upgrade today from sync 2 to 3. All working but i now don't have the heated seats coming up on the climate display. Any ideas?

Use APIM as-built from a 2017 Wildtrak. A quick Google search will find you one. Using Forscan, load the complete as-built for APIM and write. This will sort you issue.

Man I'm glad I found this, I've looked elsewhere and read this couldn't be done, thanks for such a detailed write up too.

If people don't mind sharing, what sort of price are wreckers asking for the Sync 3 screen assembly and USB hub? Don't want to get ripped is all.
Oh and I'm upgrading in an Everest so I guess I should be looking for either a Ranger or Everest to get the gear from?

Dont think it matters, as long as you re program the APIM with the correct vehicle that you have. If t was from an Everest, then no changes needed I believe. Probably easier to find one from a Ranger though.

Price can range from 500 to 1000. It will depend on demand, the wrecker etc etc. They will sell them for what people are willing to pay.

Any should work with specific asbuilt for your model and level vehicle. I'm unsure if the Sync2 brackets fit the Sync3 though, so a different model vehicle may or may not be an issue in this respect.

Another quick question guys, finally found a wrecker with the gear I need (you wouldn't believe how many have said nup already gone!)

Do I need just the APIM module, or the screen itself too? Is the newer Sync 3 screen any different, more sensitive etc as I find the Sync 2 a bit average
to use, doesn't always register a touch very well.

Sync 3 screen is capacitive touch like a phone. You need the apim and the screen, which should be connected together as one unit.

Just did sync 3 upgrade. Great thread and a really worthwhile mod. Sync 2 Nav was too painful for me.

Paid 750 for the hardware so your spread was perfect Stewart. I'm sure they'll get cheaper eventually.

Donor was an '17 Everest. I pulled the apim data with Forscan and compared it with a 2017 XLTs data in Asbuilt Explorer and it was all exactly the same.

I am struggling to get it to recognise my usb to load the XLT Ford update however. Tried a few formats and getting nothing. I'll have another play at some point but not too fussed. Probably a mac thing. Apart from its Bluetooth name showing up as 'Ford Everest' I haven't noticed any other faults.

Format the drive as exFAT, Fat32 is problematic. If you have issues just format on a Windows computer.

Find an asbuilt for a 2017 XLT and load the asbuilt file you download to the apim and write. Google, Ranger 2017 XLT VIN and you will get one pretty easy. Load the whole file, don't write certain parts as you have missed a few lines, hence the Everest. When you select load all you will have to change the drop down box next to the file name to .ab as it will be .abt.

Really depends on what you can get the unit for. They are going to range in price depending on demand 500 to 1000 but you can only ring wreckers and see what they have.

Everything else is small change.

I've finally got my Sync3 screen/APIM. Was chasing for ages ever since vnhon2's original post. Lucked out on one ages ago where the screen was chipped.
Also asked for the matching GPS antenna module from the same donor car, and will just have to get a Female to Female fakra cable to use? If not I'll go the original plan and get one the same antenna Stewart linked (that actual seller out of stock atm)

Not worth the hassle as wiring will be in loom. Just get the antenna I did. 100% working on my 2 Sync3 systems anyway. I had another similar one that gave errors.

Hey Stewart, yeah the original wire to the gps antenna was in the loom so wrecker just unclipped at the antenna end. Looking at the antenna itself, it's the same male fakra connector that is on the back of the APIM? Ok sounds good. Honestly I have never seen a genuine Sync3 antenna. Either way will work as unlike the old Sync it is not an actual model.

Also don't forget to unplug the old GPS antenna behind the cluster.

You may find you didn't give share access to the photo possibly? No harm done, it is just they could not be viewed. Also the links seemed to be 10 times longer than what I would expect a normal google shared link to be.
