Hi All
As the subject line alludes to, I recently got a BPT pcm & tcm tune, and now my trip computer is approx 1-1.2lt out of whack. It used to be within 0.1lt prior to the tune (which I loved)
While seeing the optimistic numbers on the dash is heartwarming, I would rather it be accurate. Is there anyway I can fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Maybe talk to BPT. Let us know what they say.
I have just done the BPT tune but the trip metre still seems to be pretty accurate. You havn't changed anything else ?

Thanks for the response.
Nope, I have been racking my brain thinking what else it could be.
The only thing I can think of is I had a flat battery once during this tank and had to jump start the car. The dte changed when I restarted it, but the trip computer with kms travelled and the current fuel average information was retained. I have a long range tank and did just shy of 1000kms and was averaging 10.0l/100km however put in 112.5lts.
I also filled up using the same bowser and filled till it was overflowing out the filler on both occasions, so I know that is not the issue....

Not much to report yet.
I have changed the tune from the max to the towing tune and refilled the tank. The fuel use reading has definitely gone up, and it seems reasonably accurate in relation to dte vs kms travelled. Have just over qtr of a tank to go, so will report back once I fill it again.

Just filled up and this time it was 0.8lt out. It may seem trivial, however it is quite annoying. Same bowser, filled to the brim. Did 910kms and put 111.04 litres in. Dash readout states 11.4, however it is 12.2 actual. Have reached out to BPT.

Yes yes, I know, it is easy to disregard as a first world problem, but I liked the accuracy beforehand. I used this as more of a measure to tell remaining fuel than the gauge or the dte itself to estimate range. A 7lt per tank discrepancy is reasonably significant. Plus, I just like things to work the way they are supposed to, and when they don’t, I want to understand why and fix them.

This is still an issue for me. Filled up the tank again and this time dash indicated 11.6, after actual fill it was 12.3. BPT don’t want to know about it based on their lack of response. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can try (or check) in forscan to see if the settings are right? As I said, I always found it perfect before and it has only gone out of whack after getting the BPT tune. Love the tune itself, trip computer shits me now.

Cannot not help in that respect, mine is within .3 with tune but can fluctuate a fraction.
Have just modifed firmware for TCM to allow any tyre size change I want to will do a comparison on this tank with correct tyre size and see what happens.
Have a look at BCM tyre size 726-12-01 and list the details here, Also tyre size please.
Have you reverted to stock and done another full tank to see what happens? Honestly nothing in the PCM tune should influence why the figures are out.

See below. I have change to 977 (not sure if something else has gone a miss)
Running 265/65/18 AT’s. Speedo still seems to be spot on to factory (4kms out at 100km/h)

Haven’t done a full tank on stock tune. It takes me about 3-4 weeks to get through a tank.
Going into Ford in 2 weeks for a 60k service and a trans service, so will be reverting back to stock then. Might leave it that way for a few weeks and see.

I can see your DTE will be out no matter what as at those tyre sizes 0984 would be appropriate.
Have modified TCM firmware to accept more than 0977 so I will see how that works out with DTE over this 140 litre tank.

I modified to 977 and put A/T’s on approx 12 months ago, did a half lap around Australia and have done approx 20,000kms. Every was fine during this time and the 30,000kms before it. It was always very accurate.
Since it has gone out of whack, the only things that have changed are;
- tune from BPT
- a flat battery
- a replacement tank from brown Davis as the other one was leaking.
I have checked in forscan, and the tank is still showing 120lt.
The only other observations which may or may not be related are;
- after the bpt tune, the dpf % code I was using for the last 50,000kms on a scangauge suddenly become inaccurate - it would only go to approx 20% (and take forever to get there) before doing a dpf burn. I changed to the one you have on here and order was restored.
- The fuel used and dte remain perfectly linear for 3/4 of a tank (eg 800kms with 200km dte at 11.5l/h) which would indicate a fill of 115lt. Then the last 200dte goes down twice as quick only netting me 900kms out of the tank before it gets to 0 dte, but I still put 115lt in which gives me the 0.8lt approx inaccuracy.
If it was a dte thing, I would understand. But this is the computer thinking it is burning less fuel than it actually is. Again, it is great seeing the optimistic numbers on the dash, but I would rather it just be accurate.
I can’t explain what it is, but I know my car, and something has gone a miss.

Umm. Not sure, where will I find that info?
I have loaded the mild engine tune and mild trans tune.
Will have to check when I am next back with the car on Saturday.

So factory and tune were both AHY. So there is not really an explanation.
Still waiting to see how mine goes after changing tyre size above 0977 to see if DTE is closer again. Once propery refined, GPS vs road speed and can get a clean run on a tank, I will have an answer on whether it makes a difference to DTE.
