Sync 3 up & running. Have yet to install the USB hub. Just a quick play with it so far, it's so much more responsive than the old Sync 2.
The Factory Sync 3 GPS module works a treat with the 1.8m Fakra cable I got. Clipped in the same as the old Sync 2 GPS module.
Question though, where does one download Sync 3 V3.0? Being Sync 2.2 it's not connecting for the update, so the Ford Owners site still shows me having Sync 2.
PS: Thanks again vnhon2 for the detailed photos & instructions. Made the job a breeze (which I needed as it was so bl00dy hot tonight :) )
Cheers,
Russell.

Thanks to Stewart for working me through updating my newly installed Sync 3 to version 3.0
Still hasn't registered the change on the Ford owners site, and I get an error when trying to send the update confirmation file, but hopefully it'll come good at some point.
USB hub is also installed, using the 300mm of loom from the donor car. Snipped the only 2 wires required on my cars loom (same colours as donor car's loom/as per the diagram in the harness adaptor thread) and spliced. Left the other 6 wires attached to the original plug & taped up.

One thing I noticed is Bluetooth stream info now comes through to the left hand cluster screen. Previously it just said "Bluetooth Stream Detected".
Not sure if this is a Sync3 thing, or the latest update to Android. https://photos.app.goo.gl/epJ2E9euk7dF2zPB8

Now a question, how do I get the option of having different coloured buttons in Night mode? Are they linked to the different themes, Raptor, GT ect, or a Forscan edit?
Cheers,
Russell.

Well done Russell.

Some themes do use different colour buttons but the boot logo will also change. The colours you may like may not mean the boot logo is something you want though.

Can't say I have ever tried Bluetooth streaming but it sounds like a great improvement.

Have not been on the forum for a while but now starting to get more active on it!

Have been speaking to Stewart off forums. Thank you for answering all these questions in my absence!

SO, I believe these China GPS or at least my versions have an issue with the GPS clock change over.

This can be noticed by a GPS icon on the map screen with a cross through it and not being able to reset the system time to GPS time.

This has only started happening in the last few few so I have ordered some genuine antennas now. Think they retail at about $180ish but can be had for $140 though if you have the right contacts. Rastus posted a pic 2 posts above.

Some more info on the GPS clock change over here https://www.abc.net.au/news/science/201 ... s/10966218

Stewart, just wondering how you got on with the genuine Ford GPS antenna, did it solve the clock issue?

I've got some parts on the way for an upgrade however still need to source an antenna, and am now wondering if I should try and get a hold of a
genuine one rather than the generic Chinese units.

I've had no issues with the GPS/GPS clock on my Sync3 install, but I did source the factory GPS antenna when getting the Sync3 unit.
Factory Sync3 GPS antenna:https://photos.app.goo.gl/AHjAPSNY4gZo8hRa8
Female to Female Fakra cable I bought to connect factory GPS antenna: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/153262718180

Only issue I've had is the Ford owners site still has my car listed as having Sync2, and I get an error when trying to upload the Sync3 upgrade file using the donor car's info. Hoping that when Ford do release a newer version of Sync for pre MY18.5 Sync3 units (currently stuck at V3.0, build 18093), I'll be able to update over wifi and hopefully it'll then report that I have Sync3.

Okay so bit of a different story for the Everest GPS module, I'm not sure what the solution is yet as I haven't pulled my car apart and the donor car isn't local to be able to have a look at.

To cut a long story short
According to Ford spare parts and the wrecker I've spoken to:
My 2015 Everest Trend will have part number FL3T19H454AD. (RRP $234.05). This is actually suited for all model Everest from day 1 to current. They didn’t change when they went from Sync 2 to Sync 3

Different story with Ranger... Sync 2 is the same part number as above. Sync 3 has a different module: EB3T19C175CA. RRP $169.75

I'm guessing the loom itself must be different and go from Fakra at one end to the 6 pin plug at the GPS module for the Everest's.

Cannot decide if that was the real issue but I put one in anyway. The fix is much quicker and the time problem has not resurfaced since.
I did a Sync3 install after the fact and used China antenna and it has been ok. It may have just been my modifed Sync3 unit at the time.

They are having a lend of you. Make sure you give them a VIN from a MY18 + Everest. Both part numbers you supplied are Sync 2 and are an actual module on the Canbus.

The part number in the you need is EB3T-19C175-CA and is what I purchased and is just an antenna. Also if you look at any vehicle with a Sync3 they will never show a GPS module.

Pretty sure I paid about 140$.

Just finished completing this upgrade on the weekend, thanks so much to everyone for all the info, made it so easy.
I also fitted a Lightforce fascia to relocate my Towpro and driving light switches at the same time.

Annierie the adaptor can be found here
https://www.4dtech.com/sync-3-retrofit- ... er-gen-2a/

Or here (where I got mine - cheaper)
Just send them a photo of the USB module as the one shown in the listing is incorrect, and we require the alternative mentioned in the description.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ford-SYNC-2 ... 2749.l2649

(photos of the module if you haven't pulled your car apart yet: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FOR-FORD-AP ... ctupt=true)

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting the Ford Owners site to recognise the upgrade, as none of what’s mentioned here has worked for me so far.
Every time I tried to scan for an update it either:
- Just stops with no message
- Thinks for a long time and then advises “previous scan was incomplete, last scan 07/12/2017”
- Briefly scans and then gives the same message as above.

I’ve tried both the home wifi and tethered from various phones.
I’ve also successfully completed a USB update for a 2017 Everest Trend on the weekend just gone.

It’s all working fine, I’d just like it if the Ford site was correct too.
Maybe a reset?

I'm in the same boat Dave.
Since installing Sync 3 in March & updating to V3.0 build 18093 via USB, mine hasn't seemed to connect to the server via wifi correctly. No matter how many times I check via wifi it says "last checked for updates: 02/03/2019" ....interestingly the day after my Sync3 install. Ford Owners site doesn't accept the .xml update confirmation file either, generated from the USB update. Says "Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again"
Hoping that the pre MY18.5 Sync3 units will one day move past Build 18093 and wifi will pick this up. In turn that will report back to the Ford owners site that we're running both Sync 3 & the updated version. (is v3.0 build 18261 or 19119 a thing for us pre MY18.5 people?) <saw these mentioned on other forums.
If so, i wonder if this will end up being available via wifi
A request to anyone that is running v3.0, build 18093, and Ford Owners is saying you're up to date, when it does say there is an update, can you give us the heads up?
Cheers,
Russell.

I doubt you will see further updates via wifi let alone any major build updates. From memory v3.2 and v3.3 can run on the current system but again there is nothing new for these vehicles.

Most new builds are mainly adding features for new vehicles. You may see something new in the next Ranger.

Anyone have any recent ideas where to get a sync3 screen from? Ebay $1200, wreckers about 4 hours away $600 ish so I have been told. Anyone have a reliable source?

There is no reliable source as wreckers are just not reliable.

Just have to keep on them all the time and they can go anywhere from 600 to 1000.

I got mine from Grant Walker Parts in Vic for under $400 for just the screen assembly, it took a while to find though as most wreckers said they were already gone.
I just asked every wrecker on eBay and Gumtree that had a suitable Ranger or Everest listed

Good day Saeb. Hope you well.

Thank you for creating the tutorial on how to upgrade Sync 2 to 3. It gave me the confidence to order a used sync 3 for self installation. I received all the tools and connectors today and will receive the sync 3 unit by tomorrow.

On one of your post you mentioned that you can view your CCTV from the sync 3 screen.

Can you please instruct me how you manage to do it. Is it an app you need to install on your Mobile Phone that is compatable with sync3.

I have an Android and my CCTV is HIKvision.

Thank you.
Enjoy Your Life...

Hey Stewart,
only just stumbled onto this upgrade (new developments are exciting) and was thinking hang on my Sync2 has android auto but your looks like it mirrors phone in Android Auto? Have you tried OBDlink app on it or Hema app?
If they work I will need to upgrade I think.

Is that your utraguage bracket in the pic above screen as could not see center bracket on your buy page? Want the Lh vent and center vent brackets.

Lol forgot that mine changed to sync 3 late 2016.

I still cant get you tube or any decent apps through android auto maybe a app issue?
I need to try OBDlink app through it if Torque works. greed ultra gauge would be good but a little exy when the phone dose it for free. need a better conversion rate.

no entering addresses while driving after a update a year ago before then it did as someone asked so use Waze and also get police then.
