Not Ranger related but I know someone here will have some insight on this as there's quite a few tech gods here.
PSCM Module in a Kuga, shows a DTC of U3000:53 - Module Deactivated.
This relates to the PSCM Module in the electronic steering rack (non hydraulic). The advice from many online sources is that it can't be rectified by ignition cycle and resetting modules/on demand testing in forscan shows nothing but success results, however, the DTC remains unclearable and the steering is still dead.
The question really is, through forscan or IDS (or bench test), is there a way to 're-activate' the module (forscan still connects to it and shows it being there) or is "deactivated" ford speak for "fried beyond repair"? I've downloaded IDS and hoping to play with that this evening if it's not too difficult to use
It's $3500 from ford for a new rack as they don't fault find and only replace, another service provider has advised they may be able to reset/relearn the module, however having diagnostics gear and being so far from town it would be preferrable to fix it myself.... without removing a whole subframe..
Keen to hear any thoughts from a tech perspective, apologies for not being Ranger related...
Cheers

I have an escape that is almost out of warranty so hopefully I wont need this info in future.
Just from some research it appears to be a common problem and cant be fixed without fitting new or repaired parts. Hopefully you can work around it.

Thanks Bala1,
It definitely doesn't look promising at the moment. There's a lot of different specific failures with these from what I've read and only very very few agencies that can test and repair by the sounds. My wishful thinking is telling me that surely it can be re programmed but in reality its probably just fried

Most likely internal electronic issue.
Even if I was to try then it would be re flash firmware and if issue persisted then it would be replace it.

Thanks Stewart, i'm thinking the same now
We've ended up going down the exchange path for piece of mind with warranty etc (rare as hens teeth to find a supplier however)
On the re flash topic, this would be outside the scope of forscan i'm assuming and would require IDS? Went down the path of downloading IDS and FJDS however short term licensing seems to be a thing of the past and ETIS wants a small fortune for a 12mnth subscription. Would be interested in being able to perform updates on the ranger myself if I had the right gear.

In this case, yes I woud do a PMI with IDS, clear DTCs and see if the fault is still present.
FJDS used to do a 3 day license, clear cookies and look at motorcraft selecting USA not Australia. You would also need a J2534 device.

Thanks, got onto the purchase licence all the way through to paying except shows error "Your card could not be authorized at this time". Seems to remember my previous address details though even after clearing history and trying different cards so might need to make a new account. Working on our own vehicles is proving more and more difficult as things progress!

Yes, details need to match 100% If I use it I copy details directly from my bank. If I enter Street instead of St it can fail, so yes identical.
