I found the sync3 3.3 to 3.4 update 2 weeks ago on a us forum it said 3.4 will only work the sync3 3.2 or 3.3.
Anything under 3.2 won't update to 3.4

That's not necessarily true.
It is possible (as per on some Russian and European sites), however could be risky as it's based on a leaked factory tool and there may be a potential to brick your APIM.

I managed to install 3.4 (19200) on my 2016 Focus RS (US Spec w/Nav) that was running 3.0 using the reformat utility. So it at least worked for me! :D

Got a link the that utility and instructions for using it?

EDIT - Found the info here: https://www.f150forum.com/f118/upgrade- ... 28/index3/

Anyone done this on an Aussie Ranger yet?

Ah! You found it before I saw this reply, thats basically what I used and pieced together the files I needed from the Russian site.

Keep in mind once you do it you can not revert back.

Keep in mind it wipes everything. Voices, maps, map voices etc. etc. etc.

Basically make sure you have everything and have thought about it before doing it or you may be pissed afterward.

There are some upside and downsides depending on how it is done.

Hi Guys

Just an update on this. I have a 2018 Wildtrak. (South African build). The maps we get in South Africa only display a compass in the screen next to the speedometer. I have updated the sync3 system from 3.0 to 3.4 without any issues. I did not update the firmware and android auto now shows the navigation on the screen next to the speedometer as well.

So far I had no issues on the unit. I am well aware that I cannot go back to v3, but am more than happy with the results so far.

Ok, I have attached the default display and the new display with android auto. I have noticed that on android auto, the time and distance at the top does not update. I am not sure if a a firmware update will fix it.

In terms of the actual upgrade, it wasn't that hard. I read the Russian forums, read the German forums and the f150 forums. The biggest challenge was to find the correct packages. I recently upgraded my maps so I already had the latest map file with the license. Our maps does not need a nav voice either since it is part of the map file. I then created the USB drives, calmed my nerves and went for it.

I double and triple checked all the filenames before I started and everything went smoothly.

Once the upgrade completed the navigation takes a while to load. The 1st boot also booted with a Lincoln logo, but after that it reverted back to Ford.

Please note, this is the process that I followed, it worked for me, but might not be relevant to everyone. ImageImage

Note. SA maps don't require map voice image where ANZ do.

Yeah I'm the same, I have sync 3 v3.0 and am tempted to try the upgrade but that feature not working makes the negatives out weigh the positives IMHO.

What are the throughts on ford officially releasing an update to v3.3 or 3.4 for people on v3.0?
Would be good to have a factory supported version (although I no longer have warranty or service my car there)...

I'd be interested on hearing from anyone in AUS that's done the upgrade

Chance will be minimal to zero.

Sync 4 hardware is right around the corner, hardware and software is different. Same thing happened with Sync 2 about 6 months before Sync 3 came out.

Although Sync 4 interface looks the same as 3.4 but more refined, there is nothing that is compatible with the other.

I do the update regularly but most want it because it is something new to look at, functionality is the same at the end of the day unless you want google maps with AA working on the cluster.

Thanks Saeb,

Yeah I doubted the factory support..

Have to play with 3.4 in the flesh but as you pointed out underneath it all it does the same thing.

Would really like the gmaps data on the cluster though...

Cheers

Gmaps in cluster only with android auto not carplay.

Worst case rip it out and send it over and can do a proper upgrade with proper maps.

Support for more vehicles, visual changes, additional options for vehicle control only if calibration files are also done, Google map direction using carplay in cluster. Nothing else of real value.

I currently have Sync 3.0 on my XLT and looking at trying to bump up to 3.4 to get latest maps and Android Auto directions onto cluster display.
Has anyone tried the following guide?

Please don't post links for this update, I get asked to fix these systems every other day.

You can by all means give it a go as not everyone has issues.

Thanks.

Yikes - going to leave that right alone then. It would be nice to have but not worth bricking my infotainment over, particularly since I dont see anyone with a Ranger in the comments.
