Ok, thought I would give the OBDLink software a try on the iPad. It seems to have improved since I used it a long time ago and now supports user defined PIDS.

So much easier on the iPad to enter custom PIDS and will now do what Torque for Android will do. So iPhone and iPad and Android owners rejoice as you now have a functional way of using your OBDLink MX dongle with any device.

One problem I ran int is that when it connects to the dongle the first time it wants to register the program. So wait until a dialog box appears saying no network connection press the home button on your device. Do not close the app, leave that dialog up. Now disconnect wifi from dongle and have access to internet either via another network or gsm then register. Remember the dongle has no internet access. Once registered go and enter your custom PIDS.

Now if a calculation is wrong then you will get an invalid data length error most likely. It does not mean it doesn't exist.

I will start another sub forum for OBDLink software.

For now you could try;

Battery current in and out Amps.
Header 07E0
Mode 22
PID 402B
Equation A-127

Note that the above is HEX and HEX only contains the characters 0123456789 ABCDEF .So O for orange is a no no. Its a Zero!

Stewart,

I have been using this app a bit over the long weekend - it is pretty good for a free app

Do you have a PID for auto temps ?

Cheers

It never used to have custom PIDS so was pretty useless but now it's on par with Torque which is nice.

Try ( I have not tried this in this software )

Header: 07E1
OBD Mode: 22
PID: 1E1C
Equation: I don't know ( I'm not sure what arguments it allows )
A*5/48-18 is the sum I use in my Ultragauge 0005 0048 FFEE

It may just work or you will need to see if there are some instructions for the calcs. I still do not understand what B stands for. I get everything except Torque and OBDLink equations.

The Vehicle Editor does not include the Ranger. Does this matter? Is it necessary to manually enter the actual fuel tank capacity and the other parameters in this menu?

The vehicle editor will not have any impact on what you do or choose. It is really just generic info for your own use and if trip logging is built in ( I haven't looked ) then fuel tank size may come into the equation.

PID's that are in the software are generic PID's also so if they work great and if not then that is when we add custom PID's. Yes I pulled apart the software just to have a look :) but nothing I didn't know already.
