Hi all,

I'm in the process of setting up my 2018 Wildtrack to tow a Jayco van. The dealer has recommended that I install a voltage sensing battery isolator relay in a series with the fridge 12V supply and the standard ESC 12v supply that goes to my 12 pin plug. My question is can both wires come out of the one VSR or do you need two? I'm going to install 2 fuses after the VSR also.

Can anyone recommend a good VSR rated above 60A

Any advice appreciated.

I will make the assumption that the van has a battery then? If yes then VSR will be fine. Run pretty much whatever you want on the AUX side of the VSR.

If you have no battery in the van then a VSR makes no sense as an isolator is just that, it isolates main and aux batteries at a certain voltage.

Most if not all VSRs are capable of 100amp and above.

If you are not entirely sure then use the services of an auto elect to wire correctly. Relays will be installed where required and fuses/breakers and cable will be correct for the application.

I've been towing a large Jayco (brand doesn't really matter) around around for a while now. my setup is I have an Aux battery on the car and 2 x batteries in the van and a 3 way fridge.

I added 2 Andersons to the rear of the car.
1 (red Anderson and red plug on van) is isolated to only be active when the engine is running. This runs the fridge on 12v while travelling and is connected to the aux battery. Fridge powers off if we pull over for lunch and turns back on when we leave again (recommended to switch to gas if you stop over for a while)
The other is a standard grey Anderson and connects to a grey Anderson on the van. The van side is connected directly to the van's shunt (with an inline fuse) so the Drifta registers charge going back in while driving (I get around 8A-10A form the car). This Anderson also runs from the AUX battery but is always live (the AUX is isolated from the cars main battery via a DC/DC charger).

If you aren't aware Genuine Anderson plugs are colour coded - grey/black are compatible - every other colour is keyed unique. The reason I went Red for the fridge is to prevent me (or anyone else) plugging into the *live* Anderson and draining the battery if we pull over for lunch (12v on a 3 ay fridge in van will drain batteries in no time and are never recommended to run without the car running)

Hope this helps.
