Hi all,

I must not be the only one who is searching all over the place to answer questions.

I have a 2018 PX3 3.2 Auto. I am fairly savvy working on cars and have built many a 4wd and ever passed engineering testing.

My questions are:

1. The Ranger mods USB dongle, what PID calculator do I use with it? Cant figure that out one way or the other.

2. How do I create a backup so I can reload if I mess something up? Also, how do I load that file back into the car via forscan.

3. Using non as built functions, can you brick the car using this? Should you keep track of what changes you have made?

4. Dual battery mode. Is the output still voltage regulated?

I have many more questions but i will leave it there for now. I will say that there seems to be a certain amount of implied knowledge of FORscan and the devices that are used.

Cheers Pete

The dongle you refer to is used with Forscan to change things, not used with PIDs

The PID Calculator viewtopic.php?t=6907 is used to enter Custom PID info into a monitoring dongle like an Ultraguage, Scanguage, OBDlink.

You can brick the thing but you can and should backup before you do any alterations
Each module can be backed up with Forscan for an easy restore if something goes wrong

A good resource for how to make backups, etc is the Forscan forum itself.
That's where i go to for Forscan guides and functions.

I come here for tech tips and advice!

Light bulb haha

Thank you guys, that helps explain things a lot.

When doing a backup, I did it in FORscan but I cant for the life of me find where that file is. I will keep looking.

Thanks a million for the replies

Remember backup is per module. You need to backup each modules asbuilt independently.

Default location for stored files is C:\Users\*PROFILE_NAME*\Documents\FORScan, assuming you are using Windows 10.

1. I will do a short video sooner or later on how to show PID data in Forscan.
The Ranger mods USB dongle, what PID calculator do I use with it? Cant figure that out one way or the other. Although I sent you a quick screen guide by PM

2. How do I create a backup so I can reload if I mess something up? Also, how do I load that file back into the car via forscan.
I will do a short video sooner or later on how backup and restore modules asbuilt data

3. Using non as built functions, can you brick the car using this? Should you keep track of what changes you have made?
Non asbuilt is asbuilt, just an understandable way of displaying the information. Backup you asbuilt and you can revert.

4. Dual battery mode. Is the output still voltage regulated?
Of course, Ford generally do not want there vehicles to burn to the ground, often. A quick understanding of this is my last post here viewtopic.php?t=1280

Thank you again for the replies.

I really do appreciate that a lot of effort has gone into learning and understanding all of this stuff. It is great to have a place to be able to ask questions and get a good straight answer.

I have had a look at a few YouTube video's on creating the backups and now understand how. My problem is that when I'm on FORscan connected to the Ranger, it does not have the save button. I am guessing this is due to only having the free version and not the extended license. Could someone confirm this for me?

Thanks again for the replies, it is appreciated.

If you do not have an extended licence then you would not be able to see asbuilt to be able view, save or restore in the first place.

Assuming you mean free and in never installed an extended licence, if not then a free extended license can be had here https://forscan.org/support/prepare_tri ... hp?lang=en

Sorry, I was making a rookie error and trying to save a non asbuilt module.

Why are some things able to be changed in the "easy mode" where others have to be code changes?

Thanks again and i hope this thread will be able to help someone else understand the basics.

Because I have not supplied Forscan every individual description and bit data for every module for these vehicles to be shown as non asbuilt, time and effort to do on their side may not make sense either.
