Ranger Mods

Hey guys just wanted to ask what brand is the best all terrain tyres with low road noise for my PX2 Ranger Wildtrack. Any advice would be great cheers

I just fitted yesterday on my XLT a full set of Falken AT3W. Very quiet and they have additional lugs on the sidewall for dirt roads when lowering tyre pressure.

Toyo Open Country on mine. Bought 285/65-17, wider but only 1 inch taller so I don't upset the gearing too much for towing. 40,000 so far with a few outback trips and so far so good.

Problems Stewart? Interested as I have always run Mickey's in the past and had a great run out of them. A bit noisier perhaps than some, but always great wear and handling. Just interested as I nearly bought them for the Ranger, but couldn't get the size I wanted.

Mainly the noise. Being the vehicle is pretty quiet the thing I notice everyday running up and down the hwy is tyre noise.

Originally running 34, 36, 38 PSI then 40 PSI but you could hear the sides of the tread being ripped off around corners and could also feel the tread blocks touching the ground as they rotated. Put them up to 44 PSI and when warm they are sitting at about 48 PSI, this got rid of the tearing on corners and round a bouts and I can no longer feel every tread block but the side affect is a harder ride.

I cannot find a middle ground to them really. Heavy side wall means when vehicle sits over night they feel out of balance for about a km.

Problem is they have done 20,000 km but look like they have another 100,000 km left in them so I have a few years before I would be looking at replacing them.

From everyone I have spoken to in person with BFG is they are happy with them, wear and road noise. I was going to go this way as I had them on the cruiser for 100,000 km but the let down was the self cleaning, they just do not self clean when you hit clay.

They have lots of positive aspects but lots of negatives also. I may put them on the trailer yet and get some BFG for the spare rims that a member donated to me.

Tyres are a big decision, if you buy a set that you are not happy with you going to be unhappy for a lot a Km's. All tyres will come with compromises as no tyre is perfect for every use or every vehicle. In saying that if you get any of the well known brands, you shoud be ok.

I am running Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697 and am happy with them. They have seen a variety of terrain towing and not towing.

I have just put Nitto Ridge grapplers on my Ranger, they have a bit of road noise at 60-80, at 110 the wind noise off my roof bars is louder. They look great however.
I can attest to the Toyo Open country at2 though, they are a great tyre.

Agreed. Unfortunately there is not a tyre does all on the market.

For Adam, I suggest he try to go for a ride in a few Rangers with different brand tyres on them to really compare. There are so many kicking around now that if you sit at your local shopping centre for a few hours, you will probably speak to 20 people with different tyres and get some opinions and even a drive around the block.
