Hi all,
I am looking at replacing my 2016 Everest Trend with a 2020 Trend and unsure which is the best diesel for my use.
City/Country 60/40 with heavy towing at least once a month.
Plan on keeping 3-4 years.
Let me hear of you experience.
Thank you,
Bossman

Unfortunately this subject has been done to death.
If someone buys a 3.2 that is the best, ditto with the 2lt.
No one is going to buy a car then admit they bought the wrong one.
Best way is to try both, then choose.
Remember that the 2lt runs 30lb of boost to achieve its figures which may go against having a long life.
No one knows.

Well, drive both of them and make a decision.
I drove them both and bought the 2.0 liters one.
My use case however is: family car, very occasional towing, offroading, mainly highway driving....
I wanted a truck, but to feel more like a car. I know it's weird... And for me 2.0 gives me what I want.
If I was going to use the truck like a truck, well, I think 3.2 will last longer in those conditions. However, here we need to define what is longer, but as Ross said, who knows... :)

There is no substitute for cubic capacity.
A 5lt diesel tows 3.5t with ease.
A 3.2 tows ok but not so easy, likewise the 2lt.
The V6 motor in the Amarok is very good.
I would like to see this catagory of cars fitted with a 3.5l - 4lt V6 diesel.
Lots of torque and still fuel efficient.
Inline motors are old but cheap technology.
There are more caravans on the road now than there has been for many years.
They are getting heavier due to all the mod cons they have.
The small capacity diesel motor struggles and and you will often read, "I tow a 3t plus van and the Ranger does it easy"
Maybe downhill but I think a lot don't know what easy is.
They are a capable vehicle in most respects.

If you are towing get the 3.2 over the 2.0. I have the 2.0 BiTurbo Raptors in our work fleet and it sucks for regular towing, it's always hunting gears and you have to push it. Not an application it excels at and at 30psi of boost I think the verdict is still out on how long they will last. Doesn't help people drive them like they stole them and we aren't towing real heavy stuff just large commercial sweepers between our sites.

If its a mall crawler, around town type of stuff the 2.0 is good but if you plan to load it up and use it in anger I'd get the 3.2 every time and hit it with the ngauge to free up the transmission.

They both excel in different ways. I don't belive there is a clear winner as different strokes for different blocks.

I say find a dealer that will let you hook a van o the back to test each vehicle. Have seen it done before.

If most think back everyone bagged the Toyota V8 LC200 when it was new, oh the old 4.2 is better and will last longer, blah blah blah. LC200 engine proved it self and there are a ton with 500,000 plus and still asking big dollars.

At the end of the day it is, what vehicle do I like the feel of more.

Thank you all for your honest feedback.
You've confirmed my thoughts and I'll go for the 3.2.
I've been happy with the current Everest with it towing what I tow for 130k kms so far.
Cheers,
