This is my original post from Ranger.net forum on Tue Dec 20, 2016 4:42 pm

Got a package from Amazon USA today.

Ordered a TPMS training tool in the hope it would also work with our Ranger's and Everest's.

* Tools are now here. wp/product/tpms-sensor-training-tool/

With the exchange rate on the day it cost $58.08 AUS inc delivery. Bargain! It took 8 days to arrive and come in a massive box and packed so well that I would have been happy to send eggs in it.

The reason for the relearn tool is after a tyre rotation the BCM does not know you have moved the wheels ( Tyre sensors ) so you need to re train the vehicle. I display my Tyre pressures on my Ultragauge so it is quicker to re train the BCM than to reprogram the Ultragauge to new Tyre locations.

All up it took under 1 minute to do so.

Following is the procedure to relearn or add/replace existing sensors.

1) Make sure ALL Tyres ARE INFLATED TO SPEC
2) IGNITION SWITCH in OFF position
3) PRESS AND RELEASE BRAKE PEDAL
4) Turn IGNITION SWITCH TO RUN 3 times ending in RUN (within 10 sec)
5) PRESS AND RELEASE BRAKE PEDAL
6) Turn the ignition switch back to OFF
7) IGNITION SWITCH TO RUN 3 times ending in RUN (within 10 sec)
8) The HORN SOUND sound indicates vehicle has entered into TPMS RELEARN mode
10) Place the top of the TPMS triggering tool against the sidewall of the PASSENGERS SIDE FRONT Tyre in the location of the valve stem. TRIGGER SENSOR, wait until the horn sounds
11) Once the horn sounds, move on to the DRIVERS SIDE FRONT Tyre and repeat the process. Each Tyre should only take 30 seconds or less.
12) Once horn sounds continue on to the DRIVERS SIDE REAR Tyre and
13) Once horn sounds continue on to the PASSENGERS SIDE REAR Tyre
14) You will receive and acknowledgement on the Instrument Cluster saying it is complete
15) You may now turn the ignition to OFF

Yes that is my iPad mini beside the box

So, I'm assuming then that if I replace a sensor (the tyre fitter damaged one and is replacing it for me), I will need a TPMS activation tool, or I need to visit a Ford dealer?

I can't just reset things or activate it using Forscan?

Cheers

FORScan V2.3.9 or later have the Service Tyre Pressure Monitor Learning mode.
I have tested with same result as Ford service procedure to relearn TPMS sensor on my Everest.

Also can use VXSCAN training tool for activate the sensor too.

All you need is
- TPMS activation tool
- Replace sensor
- Relearn the sensor by FORScan or manual.

Thanks for that. So just to be clear, I cannot do anything without the activation tool?

Hello all,
Looking for suggestions or confirmation of correct purchase.
Have changed rims and tyres, purchased 4x sensors 433Mhz: EV6T-1A180-CB
and push button Relearn Transmitter from Amazon: TPMS-19-8C2Z-1A203-A.
Have tried relearn process but without success - times out and horn honks twice.
Does anyone know if my purchases are compatible to each other and my Mk2?
Unfortunately have sold original tyres with sensors so cannot try new transmitter on old wheels.

Thanks in advance

I assume you have taken the vehicle for a drive and tried again?

Where are you holding the trainer?

Your part numbers are ok..

I was going to ask the same thing. My understanding is the sensors only turn on once the vehicle has been at ~30km/h for some seconds. Do the sensors need to be on in order to be trained?

Hoping to finally get my new wheels and tyres on by the end of the month.

Thanks for the quick response.
In Learning mode I have placed the transmitter at/near the valve stem and on the FLH tyre at the base of the stem.
LED of Transmitter comes on for 7 secs when pressed. Repeated pressing does nothing. No horn indication except when the process times out with "Retrain Failed" indication.
I'll drive above 30kls and then immediately try to retrain - will let you know shortly.
Thanks for assistance

Well, I drove till the "Tyre Monitor Malfunction" alarm came on.
Arriving home I immediately went into Relearn mode by using the turn key and brake method.
FLH tyre did not respond when transmitter placed everywhere around the valve.
Tried all 4 wheels with not horn indication of success and received Retrain failed Try again message.
Must have 4 dud sensors or a dud Transmitter.
Any suggestions.
Thanks

I might know what the problem is. I just noticed you've got your part number listed as EV6T1A180CB. The ones I bought (however I'm yet to try them) are EV6T1A180DC. Difference in the last 2 characters. I bought mine from an Australian Ford dealer listed as suited to the Ranger so, IF I have the correct part number, the ones you have may not be compatible. I don't know why but I do know Ford produces differing frequencies.

Can any who has successfully changed their sensors list the part number they used?

Last 2 characters shouldn't matter as they are revision numbers.

Have also had this working in models that didn't have TPMS so unsure what the problem could be at this stage.

Check your part numbers and send me you BCM and IPC asbuilt files to make sure that something has not been played with.

Ahh, thought I might've been on to something. I know there's at least two types of OEM Ford sensor so thought that might've been it.

Thanks Stewart.

Thanks for the assistance
But I have no idea what or where BCM and IPC as built files are or how to obtain them.
I will keep trying the transmitter till the battery goes flat or it may have insufficient power now - although purchased new.
Will keep in touch
Thanks again Stewart and Apsilon

Take it to Ford and get them to try and enable. It will at least rule out a faulty trainer etc...

Just an FYI really, I just fitted my new wheels. Did the TPMS training procedure and it accepted it fine. My transmitter the light only stays on for about 3 seconds and both rear wheels I had to push the button twice. I'll see if I get an error through the week but I'm not expecting one given it honked at each sensor and got the training complete message on the dash.

I have the same transmitter as shown above and the DC revision of the sensors as mentioned previously.

Thanks Apsilon. Possibly Ford sold scubaroo the wrong parts even the receipt stated the correct part number.

As you have en counted, sometimes you do have to press it again but it always works. If it fails completely the cluster will tell you.

Thanks again for sharing the outcome.

Using Forscan to train or using the manual procedure I put in the original post will achieve the same, it initiates the programming procedure. If you get lost with it after initiating your instrument cluster will display what tyres to hold the tool on.

It takes 5 seconds to start the manual procedure over how much time pulling out the laptop, opening Forscan etc....

I usually keep my training tool in the glove box along with a copy of the procedures.

Hey Stewart, thinking of getting a training tool as I'm having a few sensor issues and can't be bothered going to Ford.

What do I need mate and any recommendations where from? Don't want to get the wrong one.

Cheers

Hi Gerry,

Just the training tool in the first post mate or the VXScan tool although I do not know the part number, bugzila?

The tool I purchased is a genuine Ford item. Basically the first post pretty much explains the whole deal but just search amazon for the best prices or ebay US if you like.

I can say 100% the above part numbers in the first post are correct but its just finding a AUS shipper that will take you the most time.
