I have a 2019 XLT with factory 18 inch with road tyres. I bought the recommended TPMS training tool, and I can train the factory wheels.
I bought some 17 inch 2017 XLT wheels and put some 285 all terrains on, and I cannot get the training to activate on any of the wheels.
Would the wheels not have TPMS sensors?
Is it easier to just buy new sensors and swap them over? If so, do I need to purchase exactly the same sensors?

Did the wheels have valve stems when you bought them? The sensors are inside the rim on the inner end of the stem, pretty hard to miss.

For new ones, I'd get the same as you have for the existing wheels.

Pre and Post MY19 use different sensors. If the MY19 factory wheels programmed ok then you will need to replace the MY17 wheel sensors with MY19 sensors.

Appears I need to get some updated sensors. Any suggestions for the best value?

Dealer or ebay are usually around the same. Seen them anywhere from $45 to $55 a sensor.

Hello,

I have had new rims/tyres and new sensors fitted to my 2016 XLT - pre DPF (if that matters).
TPMS error message.
Using the training tool I can get into settings - key on/off method- I can activate LHF sensor but it times out for RHF.
So it appears sensors and tool are compatible.

Do I carry on to the others - RHR, LHR - and avoid RHF for now?
How do I test/eliminate RHF sensor as being faulty or not?

I have the original wheels with sensors fitted still.

Cheers.

"I have the original wheels with sensors fitted still."
Not on the vehicle - I still have them in my possession - original wheels with original sensors.

I take it that the "horn beep to indicate the BCM has recognised the TPMS sensor" should occur for each sensor?

Thanks.

Assuming the sensors are correct and the tool is compatible then yes rule is out by going to each wheel. If none program in the you either have no sensors or the wrong sensors or tool.

Stewart,

Thanks for the feedback.

Ok, I re tried the sensor training, LHF (ok/done) RHF failed/timed out.
I grabbed one of the original wheels with original sensor, placed alongside RHF - after rotating a couple of times to wake up sensor.
Redid the sensor training, LHF (done), RHF (original wheel/sensor - done), RHR (done), LHR (done).
Training completed successfully.

So have had tyre dealer swap sensor to RHF wheel on vehicle.

Points of note:
- valve stem keyways (the base of the stem into the sensor) were different.
Original a 90 degree keyway, other a parallel keyway.
- mounting screw that holds sensor body to valve stem.
T10 torx

Original sensor may have been non genuine - I didnt get to see it.
The faulty sensor has part number EV6T-1A180DC

Cheers.
