Original post below.
New tyres so best I sort it.
Maximum size in hex in the BCM the Ranger will take before throwing PCM and TCM codes is 0977.
Standard XLT 265/65 R17 circumference is approx 2438mm
MT ATZ P3 at 265/70 R17 circumferance is approx 2519mm
What a massive difference.
Hex in BCM 726-12-01 xxxx-XXXX-xx was 0936 and I have changed to the maximum 0977.
0936 = 2438 265/65 R17 Factory Tyre
0977 = 2505 265/69 R17 - Non existent but closest we will get
0987 = 2520 265/70 R17 - Fault codes
So I have gained back 67mm and only fell 15mm short.
265/65 R17 410 Revolutions per kilometre
265/69 R17 399 Revolutions per kilometre
265/70 R17 396 Revolutions per kilometre
All in all I will probably pull back 2 of the 3 kph lost by putting lager tyres on and my DTE will be very close to what it should be. Also it will get even more accurate as the tyres wear down.
So if you have 265/70 or even 285's then max it out to 0977 as it will still be an improvement to your DTE and ODO. Imagine over 100k running larger tyres and no changes your car would actually be lying about how many kilometres it has travelled.
Good luck all.

You cannot go any higher than 0977 without faults. What you intend to enter will cause faults. 09DC will give an engine check light at all times so you will not know if you have a check like for other faults.
I do have tyre size calcs in some software I wrote earlier in the year. I did post it on the Ranger forums but will up it here during the week.

Did this one today, I'll be driving out of the Cape on Friday and back again (3500km trip), will be interesting to see the DTE and speedo difference. Speedo use to read 94kph.. GPS 100kph 285/70/17
I'm assuming if its going to change the DTE I should see a change in Litres per 100KM average as well. atm 11.3 L/100KM
Cheers

That is correct as it affects everything in the dash.Sports wrote: ↑Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:09 pm Did this one today, I'll be driving out of the Cape on Friday and back again (3500km trip), will be interesting to see the DTE and speedo difference. Speedo use to read 94kph.. GPS 100kph 285/70/17

You should at least show close to 97-98kph I would imagine. Everything original dash would be 96kph and GPS 100kph.

This is one I should do also. I'm running 285-65-17 which is still about 15mm short at 0977, but will be interesting to see the change in DTE and economy.

With the bigger tyres my speedo was spot on, but distance reported was obviously under. After setting the tyre size the speedo now reads 4kmh high again, but economy shows about 0.4 l/100km better.

You could try playing with the function to adjust dte in the service menu IPC. Also is it a fresh fill up after changing as a mixed tank of before and after changes may affect it?
What was the difference in calculated vs true economy before the change?

It was a fresh tank when I started recording and just using the dash display for average fuel consumption. It was only a 70km trip, but one I do regularly. I do record my economy using the odometer and actual litres, so I can compare with my calculated economy after the next fill. Time will tell if the 'improvement' is real I guess, but calculations indicate that without tyre size correction, it would be around 0.4 l/100km out, which is roughly what I was seeing on this one trip. Like I say, the speedo is again reading high, which indicates that the factory 'speed margin' is back near where it used to be, but hopefully distance travelled is now closer to actual again.
Mind you, at the end of the day, if I need fuel, I fill 'er up.

Still good info. Mine has reached 14lph on the dash. Although I had already done 400km so will see what my manual calcs bring in 2 tanks from now. I know these tyres will use more and I'm only driving 15km each way per day at the moment so the engine is still isn't fully warmed up by the time I reach work but not to fazed as I only fill up every 1.5 months now.
I have gone from 8's with factory trim to now hitting 14 which is huge and I can now feel the difference in the gearing ratio between 2 to 3rd where I never felt it before. I'm thinking sports mode with auto shifting will probably give better economy around here as I'm only doing 70 to 80 kph.

1100km Weipa-Townsville 134 litres =12.1L/100km and the dash is reading the same 12.1L/100km
It's slowly getting better 11.5/100km as to be expected, Weipa to Laura would have use a little more fuel.
Bonus is I don't have to pull the tank @134 litres used the DTE was reading 5km remaining, happy with that and 6 litres left. Before these mods DTE/Tyre size I'd be on empty and could only squeeze in 120-125 litres

Mine was reading 12.6l per 100km prior to the tyre size calc. Now I am down to 10.5l per 100km. Much more realistic!

If I get into the 10's I'll be happy, not going to happen on the return trip home, fully loaded with quad and other gear plus pulling a tinny.

Just did a quick check for the first fill after changing the tyre size to max in Forscan, to compare calculated and what the car display tells me.
The car reported 11.8 and my calculations, using the odometer for distance, is 12 l/100km so a difference of 0.2... I can handle that
That was highway hills (at 110 kph) and city driving, but I have roof racks, solar panel and light bar on the roof and running 285 tyres.

interestingly, my my2016 XLS started throwing 0500 codes (speed sensor apparently) after changing to the 0977 in the code section. It was ok for a few days and then the little spanner would light up and occasionally the hill descent thingo would light up and say it was inoperative. Turn the car off and all good again for a little while. I have reverted back to the original size and so far had no issues. I might have to go a size down from 0977 and see what that does.

I do have tyre size calcs in some software I wrote earlier in the year. I did post it on the Ranger forums but will up it here during the week.
I changed my tyre size to the max 977 as i am running 305/70r16s and it threw a code. I just reset it, is that what normally happens?

Try 0976 and see if it still throws a code. Take a pic of the codes thrown and post.

No worries i will give that a try if the codes comes back. As i took it for a drive while on 977 and got home and scanned for any fault codes that may have been thrown and nothing came up.saeb wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2017 12:01 pm Try 0976 and see if it still throws a code. Yes any speed on the instrument cluster is identical.
You will only see the vehicles true speed if you use another tool ie. scangauge etc.
This is just to get the DTE back to a reasonable range if not spot on.

When you say true speed you mean the indicated speed adjusted for the correction factor in ecces normally shown on the speedo?
