This is not a real concern other than its bloody annoying.
I have a 12 pin trailer connector and it is in turn connected internally to a "Ford" Redarc trailer controller.
Often, and historically this seems to follow rainy periods when I engage reverse instead of the normal guide lines on the screen the Wildtrak thinks I have the trailer connected !!!
I've checked the 12 pin plug and its as dry as a wombats bum, I've been under the Wildtrak and the main big harness loom connector is dry and and the harness is okay so I'm at a loss as to the reason why, and without me manually clicking it, in the the Driver Assist mode the "Trailer Connect" is often ticked !!!
If I go out of reverse and then re-engage it often the trailer will dissapear and the guide lines will return - only to dissapear again moments later and the ghost trailer comes back.
Are there any electrical boffins out there with solutions ??

Check the loom at any point it touches the chassis.
Mine rubbed through into five wires right behind the cab. You have to really dig to find it.

I'll check that out - thanks - but as I said if I get the trailer and go into Neutral and back into reverse the trailer goes and the indicator lines are back often to be replaced ( again ) by the trailer, - sometimes not so I dont think its a bare wire or shorting issue.

I may have "found" a solution . I switched the Ford-Redarc brake control setting from its normal position of 6 to "0" and the trailer has dissapeared !!!
Could this be a standard control switch position when not towing that Ford and Redarc omit to tell us ??

Hi Boydie,
I had a similar issue recently with my PX2 Ranger. I tried cleaning the trailer plug multiple times with contact cleaner which would fix it for a short duration. I checked all wiring which was fine. It ended up being a faulty trailer control module which is under the passenger seat. I replaced this with a new one from Ford and haven't had the issue since.
