Custom PID Calculator

Any changes, fixes or new data should be posted in the appropriate threads and it will be updated.

NB This can can be used in your browser on your mobile device and swiping left/right will allow you you view all details.


100% tested and working mgauges will go here. This will eventually fill with existing and never seen before gauges. As I get time to monitor the CAN BUS I will add more.

If there is a specific gauge you are looking for and if the vehicle supports it then start a new topic and make a request. Some things do not exist, like EOT for instance. If you monitor this you will only get what it provides and that is only on off ( oil pressure, no oil pressure ). *PX3 should support this now.

I spend an immense amount of time finding these and providing working solutions. Think twice about posting them all over the web and bring people to the site with a link instead. One it helps to build a community where answers to problems can be resolved and two it gives people an opportunity to make a small or large donation to keep the site up an running to share this information. Hi Stewart
Tried the DPF soot% today (scangauge) (PX3 XLS 3.2 with sync3). It doesn't seem to work - just a blank. Is there a digit missing from the TXD? ... usually 10 digits, there are only 9.

Have tried many of the others - they work perfectly. Thanks, you are a legend for putting this info together.

Also the Alternator Output on scangauge doesn't seem to be working. The reading stays on 0.

Soot has been amended.

I have tested the Alternator current output on a SG and can not fault it, please triple check what you have entered.

If it still does not work then I would say the PID has changed or been removed on a PX3. Someone else with a PX3 may be able to test, otherwise I will need to get hold of one at some stage.

Hi Stewart, I've just got a SG 2 and its working good .I've got a few Pids that work good but I cant find a Pid for MAP or Boost. Map is already installed from factory but its not reading right. Do you have a Pid for PX 3 ?

Boost is a calculated figure based on map and barometric pressure. You cannot include 2 sensors into a calculation with SG.
Boost is already in SG and will work this out based on those sensors.

To work out boost the map is always going to be used.

If you believe the map sensor is out of spec then replace it. Your fuel usage and vehicle will be happier about it also.

I have not put up a PID for MAP as I did not see the need, what will you compare it to to make the decision?

Anyway if you want a MAP PID then let me know. There are 2, high precision and low, they can be viewed in Forscan also.

Alternator current is not working on PX3, always 0. Battery current looks correct. Using OBDLink+.

Several of the codes from here are not working on PX3, I've been meaning to figure it out and put a post up of what works.
eg.
* EGR open percentage reads from 0 to about 8000 and jumps around like a random number, several times per second.
* Auto gear doesn't work at least on the 10 speed, always reads 0. I'd really like to get that one working, I know there is something that works as CarScanner (android app) has a dial which shows it correctly, but I can't find out from the app where it comes from.

Working on PX3 (XLT 2.0L):

* Battery current
* Battery charge
* DPF soot
* EGT 13 - DPF Only
* Fuel remaining
* SYNC GPS speed
* SYNC GPS heading

Not working:

* Alternator current (reads 0)
* EGR open percent (random 4 digit reads)
* EGR temp (reads 0)
* Auto gear (reads 0)

To be rechecked:

* Engine temp
* Fuel temp
* Intake temp
* Intercooler temp
* SYNC GPS altitude
* Transmission temp
* Tyre pressures
* Tyre temp

I think this last list are probably working, but I don't have any screen captures with numbers to check right now. Some of the temps looked dubious on the one occasion I looked at them, I need to put them on a page and watch them through use to see if they are plausible.

Hi Stewart, I have a scanguage, and used the PID calculatioer for the Alternator Output, for a Ford Everest,
But it just reads 0 amps.
I tested on the one that says Battery current in/out and that works,
Is there anything special, or maybe it doesn't work on an Everest?
I rechecked the Xguage codes many times, I don't think I fat fingered it.
Appreciate the help/comments,

Thanks very much for these codes. Just trying to get the Scangauge set up in the new Ranger ready for towing the van at Xmas. This is on 2020 Ranger Wildtrak bi-turbo with the 10 speed.

I have a few questions about the codes I've tried.....

Transmission Gear Position - This seems to work, but starts showing 217 (for 1st gear) and moves up from there as gears change. I think I inputted the codes correctly. Anyone know why I'm not just seeing 1-10?

Transmission Fluid Temperature - Mine shows (as I heard was the case) that these run hot (by design) compared to other vehicles. I've been seeing temps in the 90's just form normal running around. Does anyone know what the recommended temps are that I should be looking for........or conversely at what temps I should start to get concerned (thinking of when I'm towing the van up steep hills etc).

DPF 11 (post turbo) / 12 (pre DPF) / 13 (post DPF) - Firstly which of these 3 DPF temps is it best to monitor? I assume post turbo would be best to get at the most accurate temps closest to the engine but let me know if I'm wrong on that. Secondly, as with the transmission fluid, these Rangers seem to run hot. I've seen EGT temps under normal solo driving that I would only have seen when towing up big hills with previous vehicles. I'd heard general rules over the years of anything in the 500's being "not great" and anything in the 600's being a problem, but I've seen over 600 (post turbo) driving around solo today. At what temps should I start getting concerned with the Ranger?

Gear position will need input from Stewart.

Trans temp
I would expect you will see the trans Temp exceed 100 towing a van in warmer weather.
What is ideal differs, depends who you ask.
It is controlled with a 90 deg thermostat so the chances of getting it cooler in stock form are slim.
I don't know for certain at what temp the trans goes into limp mode but I think it's 120 - 130 deg, temps I wouldn't like to see.

I monitor EGT13 and I have never see temps anywhere near what you have posted, even towing a 2.5t van @ 100

Like Ross, I too monitor egt13. It gives me post turbo temps within the range one would expect and also rises whenever the dpf does a burn.

I've been monitoring this for well over 12 months now.

I assumed it would be best to monitor EGT 11 which is post turbo, so you get the most accurate reading of what is coming out of the engine.
EGT 12 is pre DPF, so a but further down the line than EGT 11 giving the gases a (very) short time to cool before the reading is taken.
EGT 13 is post DPF, so it will certainly highlight when a DPF burn is taking place, but the DPF will also mask the heat readings coming from the engine.

I've been monitoring EGT 11 & EGT 13 today and EGT 13 is certainly more stable, but that is to be expected given it's location. EGT 11 goes up and down very quickly depending on load, which again is to be expected given it's location, but as mentioned previously the readings get high very quickly.

I think EGT 11 is more accurate in terms of highlighting what is happening in the engine, but perhaps it is too close so it goes up and down too rapidly. Maybe EGT 12 would be a good compromise, still being pre-DPF so the DPF doesn't interfere with the readings, but not being so close to the turbo that it moves at the slightest change in throttle. I'll have a look at EGT 12 tomorrow and see how much it reacts to throttle inputs compared to EGT 11.

This is all just my non-technical hypothesis though. It'd be good to know from someone who knows the systems to see what they think. Either way it also be good to know what range of temps is normal or acceptable for these engines as the temps I'm seeing are well outside of what I had been led to believe were the safe temps for previous vehicles.
