Once I get a few more projects done I'm contemplating building my own dash gauge that can hold every available PID and show on a nice OMLED display or maybe a video out with an input into the 8 inch screen, Sync2 or 3.

Thoughts, or would most people just prefer their phones with torque etc?

Main difference is that is will communicate with all PIDS in every module? There would have to be a maximum available at one time as not to overload the CAN BUS although I did just monitor 100 PIDS at once a few minutes ago although a little slow.

This sounds like a major kind of project Stewart. But personally, I think I'd prefer a dedicated screen (but where to mount???) or output to the 8" Sync3 screen. I just can't see myself setting up my phone or tablet with the Torque app every time I get in the car. Whatever it turns out to be, it would have to 'just be there' if you know what I mean.

While I love my Scangauge, it is limited in that I can only display 4 x text only outputs at a time, and to change displays is a pain. Mind you, I have no plans to get rid of it - it's been on the last 3 4wd's I've owned.

I'm very interested to hear what others think about your proposal? I'd certainly be prepared to buy a kit to do what you propose. :)

Yep into the 8 inch Sync screen but would be additional hardware again. :?

Get an Ultragauge. Up to 8 gauges per screen with auto paging at the second interval you select plus under $100 delivered straight from the states. Black background with white letters and is seen easily day or night.

Question... I have an OBD2 double adapter. Could I run both a SG and an UG at the same time? Or would it conflict or slow things down?

I found they usually conflict. Usually why I pull the UG when doing programming. Dealer will also pull them too.

That looks good Stewart. You'll have to fill me in re who to buy from in the US. I like having 8 readouts and the backlight as well.

Here you go. Buy direct http://ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/ultragauge_wired.htm $89.95 US + postage is a pretty good deal.

Go to above link press buy the select the UltraGauge MX 1.3 NOT EM Plus then scroll down and select Ford with CAN (~2008+) and whatever mounts if any you desire. Think I chose Vertical Surface Mount & Bracket then add to cart.

Best check with them first as down the bottom it looks like -40 in stock but it could be wrong.

Info for international shipping http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/s ... pping.html

I was thinking of buying another one to rewire and just use mgauges for a different CAN BUS but with only 8 custom gauges I think I will build one eventually and monitor the 4 bus's.

Cons are, between 4 and 8 gauges per page. 8 pages I think. Set how many seconds between auto paging or turn it off and change pages manually. A ton of gauges already work and are in the unit, including EGR %. Torque, boost etc. There are a lot.

My latest trick is 3 pages set to about 3 seconds but have the BCM wheel speed in the bottom right of every screen so even though you're paging speed never moves. BCM is 100% correct with standard tyres btw.

Next trick is to hopefully add the GPS speed from the APIM. I had a look last night and it seems possible so with different size tyres you will at least have correct speed from the GPS. APIM is on the same bus so should have an answer sometime over the weekend.

Thanks for the UG ordering info and web site Stewart. Looks like I might need me one of those. ;)

It does appear they are out of stock though - red warnings pop up throughout the ordering process. They are saying late June for further stock, so I'll leave it till then and keep my eye on their site.

Cheers

I'd be interested if it ran through my sync3 screen, Atm i have a Samsung tab running ozi explorer and torque pro but it doesn't do multi window, so to see one app I need to close the other.

If all that PID information could be accessed via sync3 it would do away with Torque/UG/Scangauge/mounts and keep the factory look.

SAEB you are awesome lol. I would love to know what you know. I am just starting to learn to program starting from the basics of C++, partially because i am playing with an Arduino and i have realized i have alot to learn haha.

What program and language do you use to create all these? How are you thinking about making your custom dash guage?

I am interested in creating a simple app that can show GPS speed, temps etc but i am a long way oif...

Hi mate, I'm not a programmer. I hack software together to make it work and usually it does :)

Although I would love to be able to program with C++, I have too many other things to do. Any programming can years of learning but google is your friend and as you probably know there are a ton of projects out there for the Arduino in relation to OBD. Read learn and hack it together from code that is already proven. See it then work will teach you in a 1/4 of the time.

I will look at doing a gauge with an Arduino and will basically be in the same boat as you. I will need to put aside time to learn and program the above.

Any software programming for me is usually VB or VB.net as it is a simple language and doesn't bit your head off if you have some mistakes. Easier language and I'm not writing for someone else so it suits my needs.

Most of my other knowledge comes from years of pulling apart, computer work, self teaching and working in vehicle security for many years at the height of all our wiz bang immobiliser systems etc.

Let me know how you go with it all. We may be able to help each other get a system going. The base system will be pretty easy. It's the tweaks like adding removing display's, customised menus etc. so changes can be made without have to reprogram all the time.

Good luck and feel free to PM anytime as you will need to learn all about the Canbus.

Hi John,

It is in the Ultragauge section. You would not have seen this section due to not originally doing a first introduction post as per the info up the top of the page. Link viewtopic.php?f=19&t=58&p=295#p295 Last post in that thread.

They have a 1.4 model out now. Would anyone recommend getting that version? Going to be used on a px1 2012. There isn’t an 1.3 model anymore just the 1.2, 1.4 & the Mx? Want to purchase one of these but don’t know a great deal of what one it right for me?

UltraGauge MX, the 1.2 or 1.4 will NOT do what you want.

hi guys oldish thread now is there any developments in feeding gauges to the 8inch screen as a vid input? not sure what the point is of the mobile apps menu is on the 8" screen as i have never been able to add any apps to it except like google maps from phone. be nice for a OBDlink app to feed from phone onto screen.
I too get sick of having to reconnect OBDLink apps every time I turn car on to see gauges so ultra may be the go going forward.

Can't get any details to the screen but admittely it would be good.
I use OBDLink on my phone & tablet.
The only thing I have to do is start the ap, it auto connects & starts on a dashboard

oh is there a setting to auto connect and display dashboard? mine sit on menu when started with both manual startups.

what the best tablet mounts available, looking at Stewart's bracket but then maybe a magnet holder if I can find one strong enough for the small tablet.

Go to Settings/Communications/Connection & select Automatic.
Settings/General/Start on Dashboard page and tick the chechbox.
I use my tablet when travelling, I sit the tablet in a piece of aluminium channel Velcroed on to the console
It leans on the dash just below the 2 radio control dials.
