Having a question or two re Sync3.4 and version of maps please.
Just took my MY19 WT for its 12mth service, and it came back with the same maps version ANZ117 as it had prior. Upon pickup, the person behind the desk told me (twice) that they updated the maps, but evidently they didn't.

The following day I called and left the dealership a message to inquire about latest versions, as well as did an inquiry on their website, but after a few days of no reply, I left a bad rating on the post-service survey sent by Ford Aus.

The service manager called me back the very next morning, very polite and saying that the service document states that it had been updated to ANZ119. (he mentioned that they also updated the BCM, and maybe that messed up the maps update lol...)
He got me to take piccies of the SYNC version and maps version which i txt him and now awaiting their response.

My questions:
Since I upgraded to V3.4 whilst Ford's database thinks the car is on V3.3, will that have complications re the maps update?

And is ANZ119 applicable to V3.4, or only V3.3?

thanks

My fords were about to run out of warranty and comparing the Map and Sync versions listed on here to mine i rang up and told them my system has not been updated, even though it listed it on the service sheets. Mine i think still have the original version numbers when I look.

I left the Ranger at the dealer and got a call 10 minutes later to be told it had the latest maps. I went back and as able to talk to the service person doing the update.

That dealership only does a map update via USB. The way he checked to see if it was the latest he had was by looking at recent roadwork areas to see if the map had changed.

The system numbers for Map and Sync meant nothing to him.

They have had major trouble doing sync updates so no longer try. I said I have paid for so should get updates and he agreed but basically it is to time consuming and causes to much trouble so he is not allowed to.

I later that day found that my nav was not working and that it had no GPS signal, which I had noticed while I was talking at the dealership but forgot about it. So his attempt to update my maps via USB had caused a problem. I disconnected the battery and left it overnight and after reconnecting it worked again.

Im not worried about it, but it is another black mark against Ford for me. I do at least still have the ability to search while moving.

ANZ119 3.3 maps are 100% compatible with 3.4. My update stick works without any issues. Genuine Ford USB will usually have the PN showing ANZ119 anyway. Maybe they do not have 119.

Hi all, I’ve got a PX3 Ranger (2018) and after its service last week I stayed on the ANZ117 maps. I called the dealer and they told me that the latest map for my car is 117 and that there are two versions of head units out there. I’m assuming they mean the difference between Sync 3.0 and Sync 3.1/2/3.
They even told me that they received their maps only a month or two ago, so they don’t have any newer ones.
Apparently they have two different sticks for the two different head units. Stewart, would you please be able to shed some light on this? It feels like they are telling me furfies. I was under the impression that I should get ANZ118 or even 119 by now.
I’m on Sync 3.3 build 19052 with ANZ 1 17.

Well it is sorted. Brought it in again, told them I should get 119 instead of 117. They did the update and now I have 119. Don’t know what the problem was the first time around.

Problem is they never did it.

Yes they are 2 different sticks. 3.0 and 3.2 to 3.4.

Yup, that's my guess as well. Other option is that they just don't know what they're doing. Both options don't fill me with a lot of confidence that they complete a proper service...

Its pretty normal, the message is generally not passed on. Service manager nods head and smiles then never writes it down. At the same time if the dealer did not have the lastest and reinstalled 117 then they would not know. It is up to Ford to get those USB sticks out to the dealers then the dealer to replace the existing ones in house.

Anyway I have no doubt that at a minimum your oil is still being changed.

Evert, glad it worked out for you in the end.
I will see how my 2nd attempt goes tomorrow. As per my earlier post couple of weeks ago, it took a bad review to get a response from the dealer. Then I had to follow up again after another week; they then told me to bring it back again for a full day. So heading there tomorrow and get a loan car to get back to work - taking another 3 hours out of my day to do so (I'm working full-time weekdays) where it could have been done & dusted the first time. This seems to be a common experience across many AU dealerships.

Though the service manager left me with a degree of uncertainty and expectation - he said they will "try updating the maps again" but if it fails then it is what it is. He blames it on the FORD website etc, but I told him I have it on good authority that FORD sends out USB's to eliminate the so called server issues but I was not convinced he was too sure about this process as his responses made no sense to me as he tried to talk around this.

I will update after tomorrow.

When i discussed the same issue with my local Ford dealer, he mentioned that a workshop with a dozen or more cars, all downloading multi Gigabyte firmware updates is not feasible for Australian dealerships. I guess Ford need to make it possible for dealers to host their own firmware servers, OR even better, take a leaf out of Tesla's book and allow customers to do firmware downloads directly at any wifi hotspot.

One of the big problems is that Ford is not really helping the dealers as far as I can see. I called Ford to ask what the latest version was. They couldn't tell me and palmed me off to the dealers to get this info from them. I lodged a complaint through Ford and received another call today. Same thing, they cant tell me. Told the lady in a polite way that that was bullshit as they own the data and send it to the dealers. How can they not know, but expect the dealers to be across this?
It really feels to me that this 7 year free map update is a plan that has not been thought through by Ford and is being executed poorly at best.

Ok, so I dropped off my car at the dealership this morning. Had a loan-car arranged with the booking, but service manager himself came to drive my car into the workshop and he asked me to wait for it. Got a coffee from their machine, and then the service manager brought me a bacon & egg brekkie roll to the waiting area!

Within 15 or 20 minutes my car emerged from the workshop, all loaded up with ANZ119.

Service manager came over to personally show me it is on ANZ119, and then shook my hand (which pre-covid would have not been that much of a surprise)!

Good outcome; certainly could have been done originally with the service and saved me today the 40km each way trip and the 3 hours out of work; but will certainly make sure I confirm the update has been done next time instead of just believing what the person behind the desk is saying.
