MX 1.4 or 1.3?

Hi Folks

My understanding is that Stewart recommends the ultragauge over the scangauge?
The scangauge site offers only the MX 1.4 but the Aussie site only has MX 1.3.
I have a shipito account and can get the U.S. one for half the cost of the Aussie supplied version.

Is there a reason I should go with the 1.3 and avoid the 1.4? Or not get the US model??

On the US site it looks like I should choose Ford Can 2008+

I'd really appreciate any advice. You guys got me through using Forscan, now for the next step??

I want mainly to monitor engine temp, trans temp, any others recommended?

I think you are confusing the ScanGauge and UltraGauge in your post when describing the MX 1.x. I bought the UltraGauge MX last year from the U.S. site, but don't know if I received the 1.3 or 1.4. Whichever version that was selling last November is the one I received, but it did come with the Ford CAN ~2008+ programming and the vertical surface mount and bracket. My cost, including shipping, was US$ 105. The next time I go out to my truck, I'll check the version number.

I have mine set up to display eight values:
1. Speed in KPH
2. Transmission Gear
3. Engine Temp
4. Transmission Temp
5. Front left Tyre pressure in Bar
6. Front right Tyre pressure in Bar
7. Rear left Tyre pressure in Bar
8. Rear right Tyre pressure in Bar

I played around with it for a couple of months trying to figure out what was the most meaningful data to see in real time before deciding on my current configuration. The automatic transmission gear selection is just a placeholder until I decide what I really want to see. I display the speed in zone 1 because that is my actual speed after correcting the Tyre size with ForScan. It also tracks exactly with my GPS. For a while, I had RPM in zone 2, but changed it to the gear selection since I have a RPM gauge on the dash.

I bought one of Stewart's brackets to mount the UG on my dash. Since I have a left-hand drive truck, Stewart made a special and limited run of the left-hand brackets. The bracket fits perfectly on the dash and doesn't interfere with the vent.

The UG MX can display seven pages of information, and each page can be individually configured to display four, six, or eight gauges. Each page can be manually selected using one of the buttons on the rear of the UG, or it can scan through each page at user-defined intervals.

Yes 1.4 is fine as they have stopped the 1.3 https://ultra-gauge.com/ZC/index.php?ma ... 13121b3211

You will get an option to choose Ford Can 2008+ and the mount you require on the same page.

I think you will find it is still cheaper to get it direct from the supplier than the Australian buyer anyway and the manufactuer will not give any discount at all until you buy 50 of them, I have tried and the discount was $5 a unit so it just does not add up.

Appreciate the advice. Will order it this week. Do you think the coolant temp and transmission temps are accurate? I assume the computer needs the info, so should be?

Appreciate all your work. I've got two of your dongles and they both work a treat. Even a bumblie like me can sort out a few things thanks to everything you've organised on this site. Much appreciated.

I ordered the 1.4 Ultraguage last Sunday and it arrived on Friday.

I set it up with Trans temp etc and put my Obdlink mx in the other port.

They both read exactly the same on the 8 things I set up.

No reason that they shouldn't be accurate.

Engine coolant temp is selectable, trans temp settings have to be entered.

Sorry, missed your post originally for some reason. Yeah, I meant the ultragauge, not the scangauge. Sorry for the confusion.
Been a bit busy with tools and renovations but will get onto the gauge this week. Thanks for the info.

Nice to know. Am onto it. My dad was an auto transmission mechanic and reckoned you should always put a bigger transmission fluid cooler on an auto, especially if towing. My mechanic (an old mate of my dad's) says modern vehs don't need them. Any ideas based on monitoring your temps???

I fitted a PWR trans cooler especially made for Rangers.
It is a dual core unit, not cheap but it works.
The trans temps are high on these vehicles, may be one of the reasons they have a lot of failures.
The Ford trans cooling system is a bit old, running water through it that is already hot from cooling the motor, that puts extra load on the engine plus the water pipe running through the trans has been known to split, filling the trans with water is not a good idea.

Good info to have, thanks. I'll look into the same thing. I like the auto but when they go they go big time. I also don't like that the fluid doesnt get changed. Overall, though - I still reckon it's the best car I've owned (touch wood).

I checked with one mechanic, he reckoned not to service? I'll make some calls and see if I can get it done. I can't believe there is no need to change the fluid or screens etc. Thanks for the tips.

Howdy RossPat, or anyone else. Ordering from the Ultraguage website, is correct pre-programming option for An Aussie PX3 the "Ford Other (Not CAN)"?
