Has anyone tried the 3XM rear tailgate water and dust seal for the Ford Ranger Dual Cab PX2 ?

They retail at $78.00 and while I'll be fitting one I'd like to hear if anyone else has and how they found them, should you be interested their part number is TUBSEAL 17A

I'm guessing any sealing against dust and water egress has got to be a positive thing.

The Wildtrak's have had one fitted since about May. Not the Aeroklas one sold by Ford as an accessory but a totally new one piece rubber seal that attaches to the tub liner. I have been trying to find out the Ford Part Number for this new product as well as price but haven't had much luck to date. Believe it would be retro fit-table to XLT with Tub Liner.

My tub liner has been removed as part of the customized fit-out, it had to be gone with the roller shutter and "sports bar" in order to install the ARB Canopy, 125 litre water tank and drawer and slide -out fridge unit etc.

Could you let me know how you go with this. I have tried the Clark rubber thing without much luck. Heard mixed reports on the Aoreoklas one.

Same set up as you XLT with tub liner removed.
Thanks.

Consider it done but be patient, I wont be taking delivery of the Wildtrak until the end of January due to the normal delays of Christmas holidays etc. once I have it I'll be fitting the new tailgate seal and going into the bush, I'll be able to report back then as to how effective they are at sealing for dust and water,

For what’s its worth I got some off eBay from grunt4x4 for around $60 delivered and have worked great. Small amount of trimming required but a very simple install once you get the orientation of the feathers right (ridgey bit on the rubber seal). Tip #1 look at your door seals to understand the orientation. Tip#2 is to heat the rubber strip with a heat gun on low or a hairdryer, activates the glue for a better adhesion to the tub liner and makes the seal easier to manoeuvre to curve up around the tail lights.

Okay peoples, the tub seals I bought were a total waste of time and money, I returned from the Simpson with at least a kilo of red dust inside the canopy - the 3XM seals are a total duff ! The other thing that you need to be careful of (as we found out ) is that too much pressure on the bottom edge of the tailgate when its locked and it will jar open on corrugations !
The solution was even more simple, first measure the gap between the tailgate and the inside edge of the tub, - as in to the edge of the plastic rear light cluster - mine was a smidgin over 5mm each side. Purchase a self adhesive foam rubber strip from Clarke Rubber 25mm x 6mm and adhere it to the edge of the light cluster to follow the shape and to fill that gap. Next run a strip across the bottom edge of the tub, where the little indentation groove is.
Job done for less cost than a round of beers. Mine cost me $22.50 for 5 metres of the foam rubber tape.
I'd have to admit that the rubber being black (as is my Wildtrak) the rubber doesn't show which it would up against any other colour but from the simplicity and practicality aspect it the most simply way of sealing the tub/canopy.
To remove the light cluster to replace a blown light bulb will only require a razor blade cut to remove the light cluster complete with 85% of the seal rubber.

Do you have the vent in the canopy by any chance?

I had one fitted from new and open it whenever I hit the dusty roads, it helps to keep pressure in the cargo area and does seem to make a huge difference.

Yes, my ARB Ascent canopy had one as standard fitted on the roof, we found that it was totally useless as it was "protected" by the ARB cabin rack and second spare tyre so on our return ARB fitted a second one on the passenger side just in front of the canopy window, it works well and the canopy is now pressurised, the seals I mentioned prevent dust from getting into the canopy and the pressuriesed air I guess leaks out whereever it can

I have managed to seal mine okay, but how long it will last is yet to be seen.

I still have the tub liner fitted.

If it fails i have wasted $23.45 and 20 minutes of my life

Hi folks
I've used the grunt kit. Not bad, but needs tweaking. The side seals are good, get pinched by the tailgate and work well. Need to be careful fitting them, they need to be right on the outside of the body of the tub, so the outside of the tailgate pinches on them. They then form a seal up the vertical join. I found the weak spot is the large pad that fits over the hinges. Needs an extra 10mm or so pad on it to fill the gap. Having the kit, I now plan to use the clark rubber / bunnings stuff to make up a better one, using slightly thicker seals. A side line, my Grunt up and down gas struts are great, help both lifting and lowering tailgate, saves worrying about the kids dropping it on their heads. They do make the seals a bit fiddlier to get into place.

Cheers

There have been quite a few failures with this brand, mine included.

I recently fitted a pair of ARB brand struts, I will see how they go.

Fitting instructions here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1827 from what I can see there is more mucking around then most. Pulling, drilling etc.

No drilling Stewart.

Two large brackets fit over the current top brackets.

Two smaller brackets replace the current tailgate brackets.

Takes 15mins to fit.
