That was my understanding with the basic HPF tune, that if push came to shove I could simply plug in the "dongle" into the engine diagnostic port and reload the Ford OE tune that I have on my lap-top that would over-ride the HPF custom tune and I could then get it re-done later once I'm back at home. The alternative would be I guess to buy a second-hand engine ECU ahd have it ready to swap over should the need ever arise. It would simply have to be programmed to my vehicle's VIN number.

As I see it there is just as much of a chance of the standard Ford "tuned" ECU playing up in the middle of the desert as a customised one, unplugging a "plug and play" unit then wouldnt be any advantage at all, the ECU would still be in a limp mode.

Leaving you stranded as in limp mode in heavy sand, no power and trying to tow a van or climb hills.

It's just me, I want to be in control in the bush.

I have learnt the hard way that no matter what you do and test electronics fail.

Where do you go outback to fix it?

Melbourne & Sydney are a long way off.

Like i said it's just a personal thing and whatever people do is fine, its just not something that I would do going bush, OK in the city though.

I appreciate your comments but after owning a Land Rover Discovery for the past 20 years with over 685,000 k's under our belts and driving overland in all conditions and over all types of terrain with what amounts a turbo charged tractor engine with all of 82kw of "grunt" driving vehicle weighing a tad under 3 tonnes trains you to accept that you have to choose your track. I recon even in limp mode I'd have well in excess of 82kw in the Ranger nor do we tow an off road trailer, even at my advanced age (71) we either swag it or use the Roof Top Tent.

Best to ask Barry, although I doubt the information would be good enough for this purpose.
