I went to drive my PX2 this morning, hadn't touched for a few days, and It wouldn't start. Starter motor tried and tried but it just wouldn't get going.
Left for work in my other car.

When I got home, I tried to start again but still no go. Grabbed Forscan laptop and checked codes, all the usual codes I expect are there but the two new ones were:

U0415 - Invalid Data Received from Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) Control Module A

This one I think is fine, I picked up my car after getting some all terrains fitted and I had a ABS fault light come up for about 10 seconds while driving to work from tyre shop. It went away shortly after and wasn't an issue since. So I assume maybe the car was a little freaked out by the new tyres and it was a bit wet.

P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit (Bank 1 or single sensor)

After I cleared the codes to see what ones came back, the car currently started. Not sure if this was a coincidence or result of me clearing the codes. I turned off and on a few times and car kept starting like normal. Went for a drive around the block, got the engine up to temp, and everything was fine. Tried off and on a few more times when I got home, still working as normal.

I did have a rough start last week, but only happened once and just assumed it was due to being cold and that fact that 4 of the glow plugs are showing codes.

Anything I need to worry about that camshaft code? Was me clearing the codes what caused the car to be happy and start again?

Thank you in advance.

Guess I do have a problem. Tried car again this morning, no go again, same camshaft sensor error. Cleared and tried again but kept cutting out and throwing same error :(

So far all I've been able to work out is that this seems to be affected by temp. Car refuses to start when I try in the morning around 6:30am. But when I get home at 5-6pm it works fine.

Cam and crank sensors are a common problem on many vehicles. One car I did for a friend had intermittent no start and no codes. It was the crank position sensor. Another friend carried a spare for his Jeep.

It could be a wiring issue, especially if you have had a rodent problem, otherwise I would fit a new sensor as you have a code for it.

Do you know if that is this sensor?

I dropped into ford go try and get that sensor and they said the symptoms and code sound about right. Unfortunately they closed at 4pm which I missed so have to wait untill Tuesday if I can’t find elsewhere on Saturday.

I have never looked for it on a Ranger, the person in the video seems to know what they are doing.

Here is a pic from a px2 manual. Phone pic off laptop.

I got a free pdf manual from cardiagn website. It was a few years ago but it still shows available.

I didn't have virus or other issues but I would caution using these sites. You may be aware but they are often sneaky in how they operate and guide you to download other stuff. Make sure you are using good? Antvirus program.

I did get the T6 manual as well, may have been off here or newranger forum.

You can also access the px1 manual on fordforums, in technical section. The cam sensor info is in engine electrical.
