Travelling towards Karratha towing the caravan on Saturday when the Ranger started shaking & losing power.
Initially thought it was a blown tyre but TPS showed otherwise.
Quickly rolled to a stop off the road & discovered engine oil covering the entire engine bay below head height & mostly coming out the LH front guard.
Roved the main crash panel under the front to see if I could locate the leak but no luck, the leak wasn't happening at idle & I didn't want to rev it as it was shaking badly.
Over the phone diagnosis from the RAC mechanic was injector issue, I am not sure why he thinks that other than because of the shaking, doesn't explain the loss of engine oil, not for me anyway.

Anyone got a rough idea what could have happened & how bad it could be, I'm still waiting for the local workshop to look at it.
$2700 in towing so far & expecting the repair to be costly & drawn out.

It's quite common for the 3.2 to fail on #3 cylinder
Oil spews out and makes a hell of mess
It could be that then it could be something else.
Engine running rough does occur when #3 fails
The fix is expensive, a new motor, if you can get one
My mate has been waiting 4 weeks for his new motor, another 10 to go
Demand is greater than supply

Thanks Ross, to me it sounds mechanical & internal.
I was hoping just restarting the computer would fix it but couldn't work out how that could also fix the oil leak😝
Warranty expired 2 weeks ago, only 70k on the clock.😫

Contact your Ford dealer and see how you go.
I know quite a few who are years out of warranty but Ford still replaced the motor free
It is a known issue and let's be honest, 70k hardly makes the vehicle fit for purpose
A friend with a 2015 model and only 55k on the clock had his motor replaced but he did have to pay for labour, but 4k is cheap for a new motor, better than 15k

I had an additional 3 year/175k extended warranty that I purchased at 20k as I hadn't really used the vehicle much the first 3 years.
Rang them today & they basically hung up on me, thanks John Hughes😡
Tomorrow is Ford Customer Service.
Diagnosis came back, probably 2 cylinders gone & the front main seal blown inside out, hence the oil leak.
Something related to the injectors causing the issue.
Bottom line 20k & yet to find out how long.

Good news, Ford covered the cost of the reconditioned engine & installation.
Took 6 weeks but back on the road heading North.
Fuel consumption has gone up a bit but hoping it's just a tight engine. Had the trans serviced at the same time & the oil was ok & no junk in the pan so hopefully no more surprises😝
