Opinions/experience: EGR blank but no coolant bypass

Hi

Has anyone done the EGR blank on the valve side only and left the coolant running through the EGR cooler?
I'm curious how many with this configuration still had the cooler crack?

I ask as I don't want to bypass the cooler and still have hot exhaust gasses present in the cooler with no cooling.
I feel this is a risk to the cooler cracking and leaking gas in the engine bay.
Not that this is the end of the world but not ideal as i would then still have to make a repair (and i want all the hot exhaust gasses going through the turbo :D ).

And I do understand there may be less heat as the gasses don't pass through the cooler anymore as they would have done during light/cruising engine loads.
On the other hand at high loads the EGR valve would have been closed anyway when there would have be high EGT's and the cooler would be dissipating the conducted heat coming from the exhaust side.

Getting the blanking plate for the exhaust manifold side is near impossible here so curious if it has been found to be be an issue if not fitted.
I have the 2017 2.2
The EGR valve side blanking plate is installed.

I've had the cooler bypassed and EGR mapped out. No problems for the last five months except that initially the fuel economy went out the window. The tuner bumped up the boost a bit and now getting around 11L - 12L/ 100Km. On a long run when the weather is cool it is even better but just found out that it didn't care too much for fuel econ when the outside temp was 40+ (long country running).
My biggest gripe with the map out and blocking is the turbo flutter that occurs. I'm not sure what others have done to mitigate the flutter?

I think PX1's are ok?, but PX2/3 (3.2's) use the EGR path to release excess inlet manifold boost pressure when you quickly lift off the accelerator pedal. The compressor flutter you hear will shorten the life of the turbo. Options are to either get the EGR tuned out by an engine tuner and forget about a blank (the EGR will still open for pressure release), or if the blank is what you want maybe a BOV will work.

So for the px2 and px3 when they tune the egr it stays closed when cruising and full throttle as to stop soot build up in the intake but when letting off the accelerator the EGR opens to relieve boost pressure like a BOV to limmit turbo surge/flutter.
Has this been confirmed by and dyno tune guys?

Been confirmed by me doing data logging. As with anything on the interweb, what you do with information is up to you.

Definitely tuning it to stay closed under acceleration is a good thing and still opening to relieve boost like factory is a good thing.
Is this how you have yours now set?
