WINDOWS 10 USERS CAN USUALLY SKIP THE DRIVER INSTALL SECTION 2. YOU NEED ONLY COMPLETE SECTION 1 AND 3.
SOME WINDOWS 10 USERS STILL REPORT THAT THEY NEEDED TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS IN STEP 2 SO IF THE DEVICE IS NOT PICKED UP THEN PLEASE TRY THIS FIRST.

This is a step by step tutorial on how to install the USB dongle, Forscan with Extended license and possibly one of your first non asbuilt changes. It is aimed for those with minimal computer skills but still want to give it a go.
Remember if you are unsure or need a helping hand then send me a PM and I will set it up remotely for you.
You may or may not have already completed some of these steps, the order can change but I will put this in a fresh install order.
I will use red boxes on the images for the procedures and they may also be numbered in order.
Step 1. Registering on the Forscan forums for access to an extended license.
Extended license 2 month trial page has changed and is now at https://forscan.org/support/prepare_tri ... hp?lang=en
Other license options 1, 3 and are on the page https://forscan.org/download.html Other licence options are currently suspended. Use above free licence for now.
Step 2. Install USB dongle drivers
While waiting for the activation now is the time to install the drivers for the USB dongle. DO NOT PLUG USB DONGLE IN YET.
Certain screen shots may differ depending on whether you are using Windows XP, 7, 8 etc. This install was on an XP virtual machine.
Download the latest drivers for your device from here download/CDM21228_Setup.exe and save to the desktop. I generally find the desktop the easiest place but you can always move it elsewhere after the install.
Once downloaded double click to run the file. The following screen shots will show you the way.
Next insert your USB dongle into the USB port and follow the steps below. Remembering you may see different screens or none at all depending on your operating system.
If you look in device manager in Windows control panel you should see your new device.
You have now completed the installation of your new hardware.
Step 3. Download and install Forscan
Latest version of Forscan can be downloaded here https://forscan.org/download.html Where possible always use the latest version as you may gain new feature or there may have been a bug fix.
Once downloaded, double click to run following the installation procedure below. If you want to customise the install folder, feel free. Generally the pre filled default options are best left alone.
You have now completed the installation of Forscan.
Step 4. Setup Forscan for use with the USB dongle
This may or may not be the first time you have run Forscan with this dongle but this is based on a first run and is the recommended and tested settings for this dongle.
Again, step through the screen shots, some may have a numbered sequence.
Step 5. Register your extended license in Forscan
I make the assumption that you have received your activation email from the Forscan Team and are ready to install the extended license. If not go and have a snooze, beer, coffee or one of each and I will see you again once you are activated.
We will change between Forscan's website and Forscan for this procedure.
In Forscan and copy your hardware ID
Extended license 2 month trial page has changed and is now at https://forscan.org/support/prepare_tri ... hp?lang=en
Other license options 1, 3 and are on the page https://forscan.org/download.html Other licence options are currently suspended. Use above free licence for now.
Fill in the appropriate details and right click paste the hardware ID you just copied into the appropriate text box and then generate your license key. You should now have a line with the appropriate license for your Forscan install so download the file. Your license details will most likely have different details to mine.
Changing back to Forscan you can now load you license key. On clicking load license key you will need to browse to the location that you downloaded it.
Once loaded you will be asked to restart Forscan, do so.
When Forscan restarts, check Forscan is registered.
