Although this can be used by all users, part of it is aimed at users that have purchased one of the USB dongles from me.

WINDOWS 10 USERS CAN USUALLY SKIP THE DRIVER INSTALL SECTION 2. YOU NEED ONLY COMPLETE SECTION 1 AND 3.

SOME WINDOWS 10 USERS STILL REPORT THAT THEY NEEDED TO INSTALL THE DRIVERS IN STEP 2 SO IF THE DEVICE IS NOT PICKED UP THEN PLEASE TRY THIS FIRST.

Shop wp/product/forscan-usb-dongle/ or WIN10 version wp/product/forscan-usb-dongle-windows-10-support/

This is a step by step tutorial on how to install the USB dongle, Forscan with Extended license and possibly one of your first non asbuilt changes. It is aimed for those with minimal computer skills but still want to give it a go.

Remember if you are unsure or need a helping hand then send me a PM and I will set it up remotely for you.

You may or may not have already completed some of these steps, the order can change but I will put this in a fresh install order.

I will use red boxes on the images for the procedures and they may also be numbered in order.

Step 1. Registering on the Forscan forums for access to an extended license.

Extended license 2 month trial page has changed and is now at https://forscan.org/support/prepare_tri ... hp?lang=en

Other license options 1, 3 and are on the page https://forscan.org/download.html Other licence options are currently suspended. Use above free licence for now.

Step 2. Install USB dongle drivers
While waiting for the activation now is the time to install the drivers for the USB dongle. DO NOT PLUG USB DONGLE IN YET.
Certain screen shots may differ depending on whether you are using Windows XP, 7, 8 etc. This install was on an XP virtual machine.

Download the latest drivers for your device from here download/CDM21228_Setup.exe and save to the desktop. I generally find the desktop the easiest place but you can always move it elsewhere after the install.

Once downloaded double click to run the file. The following screen shots will show you the way.

Step 3. Download and install Forscan
Latest version of Forscan can be downloaded here https://forscan.org/download.html Where possible always use the latest version as you may gain new feature or there may have been a bug fix.

You have now completed the installation of Forscan.

Step 4. Setup Forscan for use with the USB dongle
This may or may not be the first time you have run Forscan with this dongle but this is based on a first run and is the recommended and tested settings for this dongle.

Again, step through the screen shots, some may have a numbered sequence.

Step 5. Register your extended license in Forscan
I make the assumption that you have received your activation email from the Forscan Team and are ready to install the extended license. If not go and have a snooze, beer, coffee or one of each and I will see you again once you are activated.

We will change between Forscan's website and Forscan for this procedure.

In Forscan and copy your hardware ID

Extended license 2 month trial page has changed and is now at https://forscan.org/support/prepare_tri ... hp?lang=en

Other license options 1, 3 and are on the page https://forscan.org/download.html Other licence options are currently suspended. Use above free licence for now.

Fill in the appropriate details and right click paste the hardware ID you just copied into the appropriate text box and then generate your license key. You should now have a line with the appropriate license for your Forscan install so download the file. Your license details will most likely have different details to mine.

Changing back to Forscan you can now load you license key. On clicking load license key you will need to browse to the location that you downloaded it.

Once loaded you will be asked to restart Forscan, do so.

It is an economical USB dongle that allows those that want to change vehicle parameters, check DTCs, monitor PIDs etc. though Forscan on a PC.

Not everyone wants to use a phone just to access DTCs and not everyone wants to spend between 100$ to 200$ for what they want to do so this makes it more accessible to the masses.

USB dongle will allow a stable connection for programming and as an added bonus they know I have tested the device properly and it is shipped locally.

It is always a good backup incase your MX has issues anyway.

My Win10 Dongle arrived today and is all set to go. The software loads went nearly exactly as described, with the exception of recognizing the dongle as soon as I plugged it in. Win10 didn't complain about the new device, it simply worked. The LEDs in the dongle flashed for a few seconds, then I had a steady blue LED. The licensing was flawless.

Thanks Mike, I do need to put a notation in for WIN10 version. It's plug and play like it should be.

Hi

I uninstalled my previous (18) of FORScan and downloaded 2.3.19test20181203 (19) as per email everything in the ForScan folders is now empty? I've tried to down load the extended Key and but I can only assume its not loading automatic into the FORScan app?

Note I have had he site generate the download.

I hit the extended licence down load and then was asked what I wished to use to install and used internet explorer. It then took me to a screen and gave me options to open which I did screen flashes and nothing?

How do I get the Key into the FORScan App>

Sorry I must be doing something wrong?

Download and save the file to the desktop.

Windows XP and 7 you can double click and it will add it automatically.

Windows 10 or incase of other issues, start at the 6th last picture above and follow down. You will see the 3rd last picture shows how to load the licence key although you may have already loaded it.

Be sure to use "your ID" and not my hardware ID.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'm running the same Win10. Should be just a matter of downloading and running the FORScanSetup.......exe file.

It won't do anything until you connect, but the program should load and run. Maybe your security settings or virus software doesn't like it?

After having a look, it was Trend Micro that was causing the issue.

Test builds of Forscan tend to have unsigned files which could cause the issue.

Hi Guys,

Can you tell me what the difference is between 1 and 2? Is it just only that one uses old licence and the other user new licence?

Hi Folks

Just thought I'd mention this in case it effects anyone else. I am a mac person (don't judge me) so am using an old work pc running win10 but kept getting messages about missing drivers and couldn't connect anything to Forscan using Stewarts win10 dongle.
I then completed step 2 and installed the FTDI CDM Drivers (I have no idea what they are) and it worked perfectly, as above. Have used it several times since and updated, no issues. I assume my govt dept laptop has a butchered system 10 on it and needed the drivers for some reason? Stewart might have a better idea, but it was definitely the issue. Might affect a few others? All good now.

Good job mate, the issue being that Windows updates updates are generally approved and tested by the government departments before being released to users. These drivers are part of Windows update on Windows 10 and is why you had the issue.

So its not butchered just limited as such until allowed.

Either set teamviewer up on the laptop so I can log in with you to look or else send Forscan and email and see what they have to say. If you choose the eam viewer option then send me a message, most days after 3pm SA time are ok.

Year Of Vehicle: 2013

Hi All,
I have joined FORScan forum and am waiting on account activation. I joined yesterday morning(31/3 @ 0830) and it is not active yet. Is anyone able to advise how long it should take to be approved?
Cheers

Did you get the paid of free licence?

Going by past experience either one may be instant or take up to 48hours but that could have changed.

Will all come down to how busy they are and what is happening in the world. Allow 1 to 2 days. You may wish to read the PX1 Forscan section meanwhile here > https://www.saeb.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1213 <

With developer version yes but the risk is yours. I will not use it for these updates to any modules at this point in time.

Hi.
If you go here https://forscan.org/download.html you will have several choices
A free licence with limited time or a paid licence for1year, 2 year etc.
Forscan needs to be licensed to read all the modules
