Issue: Some 2016 Ranger and Everest vehicles built to 18-Nov-2016 equipped with a 3.2L Duratorq-TDCi engine may exhibit a combustion knocking noise for a few seconds after a cold start only.

Action: Should a vehicle present with the above concern, technicians are advised to follow the Service Instruction below.

Service Instruction

1. Connect IDS to the vehicle.

2. Reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest service calibration using IDS release 103.04 or later. Make sure you are connected to the internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained from the Professional Technicians Society website – Select Rotunda - Diagnostic Tool Support - IDS Support - Module Reprogramming.

My Ranger d is not happy with the cold mornings in SW WA.

Its starts fine and after about 2 minutes the idle drops and it starts missing. It wont rev, is not running on all cyl.

Once it gets to 40c on the OBD link app its fine and is fine all day.
2016 XLT 4x4 Space cab, Aluminium Tray, Ford Steel Bull bar. Rear bumper bar fitted for parking sensors.

It is a service bulletin and not a recall.

Dealer discretion if out of warranty. It is only a PCM update at he end of the day.
